I will check out some videos when I can. Does anyone have any input for headers? Mine are still good, but I figure if I'm going to go all out with the swap, might as well get new headers as well.

For lack of a better question yes sir. I still run the stock up to the cat

What header with a bigger diameter fit?

Fair enough :rotf: My only thought was nobody likes a japanese fart can :D

Hey guys, So most of you may or may not know, I am the son of Akula69 who runs around on here from time to time. When I was 15 we started a restoration on my 1989 Comanche. We finished it up in August of 2010 and I have been drving it around ever since, and keeping up with maintenance. Having driven it to college and back quite a few times, the mileage has been getting up there. We found a suitable 1999 Cherokee and are planning a 97+ swap this summer. We have both looked at threads of others who have come before us, and have seen what it takes and are pretty confident either way (although working on these trucks rarely ever goes as planned as we all know). However, I was struck by an interesting thought the other day. Right now I am running a Flowmaster 40 on the 4.0. With the change to the 4.0 H.O., how will this affect the sound of the exhaust? Will the tone get "tinnier", or deeper? A trivial question I know, its just an itch I wanted to scratch. Ryan

Yeah my 89 MJ had the same noise and i replaced the TB gasket and it fixed the prob :wrench: Did the faulty gasket affect the idle at all? I don't think it effected the idle, it started make the sound and I realized it was the coming from the TB and I removed it and saw the was bad so I changed it. Do you cut your own gaskets or buy them new? I buy new ones, I got a felpro gasket for it Oh I see..we cut ours from gasket maker material so if I cut it wrong or punched the holes incorrectly that may be the problem

This may sound odd but is your power steering fluid low? It can make noises if it is and it would get worse in the turns when more pressure is put on the system -
Sweet haha!

If they are metallic and no anti squeal was applied that could do it or there is always the chance that a sliver of metal in the pad is " backwards facing" and in the case there is really nothing you can do about it and it will continue to squeal until the culprit is worn away. Does the sound go away when you brake? -

The airbox is the stock one that came with the truck. Where can I get one of those?
-
Well I just tried the carberatour cleaner and I came up zip for vaccum leaks. The truck is snugged up tight. I tried listening more with the hood open and it sounds like it is coming from somewhere around the fan belt but if it was a pully it would happen all the time right? I talked it over with my father (Akula69), and the best we could come up with was thermostatic clutch..maybe? :dunno:

I will! :wrench:

Ironically the header was repaired once already for cracks as you say. Also I did not previously mention but, the muffler is also loudest at the exact same rpm that the sound happens at. Tomorrow I plan on running the truck and spraying some carbuerator cleaner around the TB to check for leaks. If it doesnt change the idle then I think it might be safe to assume it is either a leak in the muffler or in one of the welds. A muffler shop down here mounted it because I don't have a welder so they should be able to fix it at no cost...(hopefully) As for the intake gasket it may have been aggravated when I pilled the TB off so if all else fails may have to replace it

Yes the IAC was relatively new and when I pulled it out it was also relatively clean
-
Yes, the gasket was cut to fit and gasket maker black rtv silcone was applied to both sides

Air filter tube may not be secured tightly enough?

Over the course of the day, driving to and from school, I have noticed a hiss in the accleration of my truck (89'). The best way I can describe this sound is that it is similar to air escaping out of a pressurized bottle with a little "squeak" to it. The sound only occurs in the 2000-2600 rpm range. The two most recent activities that have occured on the truck was the replacement of the muffler and catalytic converter last Saturday, and yesterday afternoon I took the throttle body off to clean it and the IAC. Now I know the first thing that might come to mind would be vaccum leak right? Well the funny thing is the idle is fine. It idles between 800-1000 rpm in park with no roughness being transferred to the body, and 700-900 in drive under brake. Also the sound only occurs in drive under accleration or if I hold the pedal steady to keep the rpms in between 2000-2600. As far as I can tell it does not harm the truck in any discernable way (and hopefully never will  ) Any help that could be given at this point would be very welcome. Thanks y'all

Sure about that? I keep up on all the Jeep news pretty good, and I had never heard that the Gladiator was going to make it to production. They did however hint that a truck would be released, but didn't say what. The only thing everyone kept referencing was the Gladiator concept, from the early 2000's. It is green, but it has only been a concept. What did we get when Jeep said they were going to have a truck? A kit that costs thousands of dollars to put on your tens of thousands of dollars JK, and it's still not a real truck. Should have expected some of this nonsense. Turned out that they weren't planning on a full truck in the first place. A rep was talking about how they were too late into the JK's body cycle to rework it into a pickup (Even though the J8 is in current use). From the sound of it, we will have to wait until the next Wrangler refresh to see a from the factory pickup. Which will still be a CJ-8 in my book, rather than a truck. Rob I stand corrected. Jeep's official website lists it as concept with no mention of release date.

There is a supposed Jeep "Gladiator",a small pickup with the front end of a Wrangler, scheduled to debut to the public this year; however, all of the pictures and articles mentioned a green exterior..

Anyone have any videos of a thrush welded?
