That's odd, A buddy of mine has the same year 2door cherokee as my comanche (90) and the panels were the same dimensions...maybe a different year? we measured them with the vehicles sitting right next to each other. They wouldn't be long enough to replace the whole panel. I'm in the same boat as your friend in that I have some nasty rust around the wheel wells and a state inspection due in August, I'll probably just use sheetmetal patches.

The quarters for the xj 2 door will fitthe mj, just not as a complete replacement. $300.00 bucks though?
