I am the original owner of this MJ, bought new from show room floor with only 6 miles on it Nov of 1990 (got aa great deal since the 90's were already on the lot). Within the first 6 months I put on the shell & a bed kit in the back for a camping set-up. Once I got past the 7-year warranty I put in the 3-inch lift kit, 31-inch tires, 4.10 gearing, & Lockrite lockers. I had intended to start doing some 4-wheeling, then my work shift got changed so I couldn't make the time. All the street driving ended up destroying the rear locker & I had to reinstall the spider gears to keep it running for commuting (this was my only vehicle then). The mechanic that installed the gearing made a mistake in the rear, so I have replaced those since then myself (never again trusting anyone else to do this work), still the same ratio. I have only had to replace the water pump, radiator, alternator, and fuel pump once, the clutch has been replaced 3 times. I presently have 278,000 miles on the truck. The truck never had anything powered, steering, windows, or assisted brakes.
I am presently reassembling after rebuilding the transfer case. I plan on moving the axle under the leaf springs & getting rid of the add-a-leaf along with the helper springs I used to try to get the truck leveled after the lift (they never did get it truly level). I am also putting in control arm lowering kit to try to get back some of the smoother ride it had before. Those control arm angles sure did cause a harsh ride. The shell has become a problem as the fiberglass has shrunk & it has open seams now. I have taken it off & put a toolbox in the bed for carrying my tools & possible recovery equipment (when I get to go wheeling). Just this weekend I found the drivers window crank gearbox has stripped out & doesn't move the glass. Will be looking for a way to repair that issue soon.
Looking forward to provide some insights when asked, but also to glean information I don't know from those that do. I appreciate being let in & like what I have seen so far. Many rigs here are lifted a lot more than I will go, so they might be better suited for some of those ideas.
