  1. Thank you for those details!
  2. 1988 Jeep Comanche Originally a 2.5L 4cyl, AX4 manual trans, 2WD, Dana35 rear, short bed. Now a 4.0, AW4, NP231J (needs front D30 axle swapped still). Will also be putting in a C8.25 in the rear. Build date: Unable to read this half-torn sticker. VIN search says it was built in Toledo, Ohio. Current Location: Austin, TX Status: Running, drives ish, needs a whole lot of work to be streetable. Notes: Buff Yellow color. Bench seat. Not sure what the engine and trans are from just yet, looks as though a 93 ish Cherokee. Lot of mysteries to still sort through... Current owner: Me
  3. Thanks, I like the cover so far, but I have not driven with it. It was easy to install. I probably don't have it on perfectly square because there's a small gap in the rear right corner. I'll probably try and adjust that to keep water out, but the front of the bed isn't straight either so it may be a one or the other in my case. Here is the specific one I purchased: https://a.co/d/9Z3HeSd
  4. Got to finally give it a once over, and I think I have a decent grasp on what's ahead, but will definitely be spending a lot of time on this forum as I go along. Spent a little bit of time just tidying stuff up and taking inventory of things. Not yet sure how to identify the block/heads to know what they came from, but everything so far suggests an early-mid 90s 4.0. I have a return fuel line and the older style valve cover. The ECU is a 56027-887 and is dated Oct 1993. Transmission is an AW4 with NP231J behind it. Couple of photos included. The outside photo is as it was, rolled off the trailer. Second photo is after I put the original wheels back on (Moab wheels rubbed a lot) and an inexpensive bed cover (for a current model Colorado).
  5. Well I'm happy to report that it's an AW4, which I suspect will make things easier as I go along. I've only driven it onto and off a trailer, so anything is possible still. Will get it onto a lift tomorrow morning to start poking further...
  6. @ThatJeepGuy Good question! I was told it was an AW4 and NP231, so it's possible only the engine came from the YJ. Wasn't until you asked that I looked it up and realized that the AW4 was not sold with those YJs. It's entirely possible all of what was told to me was incorrect information. but I'll get it on a lift soon and start seeing what's what. I bought the truck knowing it would be a challenge, but the body is in pretty good shape and I admittedly immediately fell in love with Buff Yellow, haha.
  7. Hello everyone! Hope this is the right place to do this. Just wanted to pop in to thank everyone for their contributions to this forum. I've just recently made the switch from a Cherokee (currently still have it, a 96 that I've had since 2007 and love!) to a Comanche. May or may not use the Cherokee to complete the Comanche, it's a project for sure. Picked up a 1988 that was originally a manual trans, 2WD truck.....now "mostly" (??) through its conversion to an auto and 4WD. The donor drivetrain, including ECU+engine-side harness is from a 92 YJ. I will very likely be back soon with questions, ha. Anyhow, just wanted to say hi and introduce myself, and again, thank everyone for this wealth of knowledge. Cheers! Michael
