Comanche Fan (3/11)

  1. Update, my 1987 comanche started to quit running again after 2-3 months running normal. same issue get up to 191 temp, before thermostat opens, engine dies. sometimes restart, sometimes, not. wiggled fuel pump relay wires it shut off. rewired temporary with spade connectors. then it would die begore i could get out of drivers seat and get to hood to wiggle wire connectors. frustrating. then i wiggled the new Siemens crankshaft position sensor plug, it died. cleaned the original female connector, twisted it upside down to make better contact on the puns and ran 3 tests stayed running. ran a roadtest for over an hour, dudnt cutoff, i ordered a new female connector and fusible links from rockauto. everytime i touched a different connector the engine would die, replaced every one several times, it may finally be fixed to stay running, thanks for all the suggestion, its been very frustratinf to spend thousands of $$ and can't drive the comanche
  2. i looked for my feeler gauges, to measure the difference between the original new pushrods and the new elgin pushrods, i could see they were shorter. didnt find feeler gauges. looked like .010-.012 shorter just guessing
  3. IMG_9235.MOV IMG_9235.MOV i modified the t type lifter tool, with a piece of 1/2 conduit so i could tighten it from above. dropped a pushrod, almost went to the bottom of the engine, bought a grabber tool, on last attempt it drug it out, without having to take the head off. torqued the rocker arms. found two new silicone plug wires wouldnt go on far enough cut the boots till get a new set, cleaned the spark plugs. still makes a lifter tick but better than it was. i assume the new cam prob didnt break in right. 4. i started to disassemble the valve train , the new lifter tool didnt work, the adjuster to grip the lifter is down in the engine, i got 6 of 8 lifters out with the tool and a magnet. i modified the new tool, will try again in the morning. i stood my new elgin pushrod on a flat surface, next to the "new" rebuild pushrod, they are shorter, which may be why the lifter noise is happening. I will update 2nd rebuild of the new engine soon.
  5. a friend gave me the jeep, i emailed his engine shop about the lifter noise no response. he had the rebuilt engine a year never installed it
  6. thanks i bought a lifter removal tool, need assembly lube, always $omething.
  7. i put chevron diesel 15/40w has extra zinc. thanks
  8. i posted the video on my project page, here is the link to my channel, you can hear maybe one loud lifter tapping, possibly two when i was adjusting. finally got it running, but i will take it apart i don't like the noisey lifter sounds
  9. new rebuilt 2.5, by an engine shop. the lifters are noisy to me. i took valve cover off, retorqued the pedestal nuts to specs, still noisy. changed breakin oil, tried marvel mystery oil in crankcase oil. listen to video i just posted, if it sounds normal let me know. the pushrods, i thot had play after torqued down. i don't want to run too much and hurt new rebuild cam. just got it to stay running. any suggestions? i have new elgin lifters and pushrods i can install if youall think it needs it. i need oil pressure gauge, plenty of oil on top of engine when took valve cover off.
  10. 1987 comanche has 108,000 miles, its in good shape
  11. test drive was successful, about 20 miles, ran good. need to bleed brakes again, check lifter noise.
  12. if test drive goes well, i can move jeep out of the shed and work on my new 1979 chevy g10 van project. comanche has been in the shed over 6 months, while trying to get running right
