  1. If anyone else comes across this thread it is a motor craft distributor for a reference hope it helps someone else.
  2. Thank you so much what a difference!! That was driving me insane. Idle is still a little off but no more sputtering.
  3. Thanks gunna giver her a go I’ll post of any progress.
  4. Ok thanks here is the next tooth. Does that seem correct?
  5. So this is it TDC the way I have it now. Going to advance one more tooth and see if anything changes
  6. Gunna give it another go found a write up about it I’ll post any progress
  7. The 1 is marked should it be dead on to that?
  8. So I did the distributor twice. The one I have does not have a spot for you to hold it in place just the #1 on inside. When I set it it points to the #1 plug or just prior but not fully to the #1 marked in the housing. I’ll pull it and drop a pic to help with a visual but seems like it should be right. Thanks.
  9. Hello all. I recently rebuilt my 1989 4.0. Brand new internals bored .30 and new Camshaft. Starts just fine sounds great but sputters and starts to backfire on acceleration. Then the idle drops real low. I have been checking all vacuum lines. Brand new o2 sensor I tested b4 install. New plugs wires distributor and IAC. Rechecked TPS setting is right where it should be. Also brand new injectors and fuel regulator. I’m stumped and getting agitated. Please shed some light on what I may be missing. Also timing was spot on did it per the service manual dots lined up and correct amount of pins were counted. Thanks so much hope I can sort this out. It’s been a long build and I’m ready to get drivin.
  10. Update..... Brought it to the machine shop and they have no concerns. Should seal no problem. Guess I’ll really only know for sure till it’s running again but he was very experienced and I’m trusting his judgement.
  11. That’s good to hear. I’m still trying to get it to the shop. Busy week thanks again for all the replies.
  12. Thanks again for all the replies. When I drop it at the shop I’ll ask what they could do with the chip wasn’t really sure about soldering until 75 brought that to light. I’m not spending crazy amounts of money on the rebuild but would prefer to only do it this once for a long while. Plus the rest appears to be in great shape. The magnaflux will bring light to that though. I’ll post results as they come along.
  13. Great thanks so much it’s going to the shop this week to get hot tank!!
  14. Hello all. I am currently stripping my 4.0 from 89 Mj to do a rebuild. Everything is looking good so far. Then I went to remove the rear main seal on the block side. I’m sure I’ll get some backlash on this but I’m already beating myself up for it. I was not beating it with a hammer and the previous owner put a plentiful amount of RTV on it. Then a piece came with it. It chipped on the inside and not sure what it will effect. So my question is whether it will be fine or should I seek another block. Thanks in advance.
