Little to no brake pressure?
Haficon replied to Haficon's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
So, I checked a few things and everything seems to be working correctly. Bled the breaks again and the pedal came back for about 1 minute and fell back off. I knew the rear brakes need to be replaced they were seized up, I have not been able to find any leaks in the hydraulic side. But a 2nd question the steel line and been pieced and parted together, I am considering replacing it all with braided stainless steel hose. Anyone take a shot at this before? I know the line will hold the pressure no problem, getting the ends for the hose to connect to the portioning valve and brake side should not be to difficult we have a fully equipped hose shop were we can build almost anything. -

Thanks a lot... Gonna read up on this and do some trouble shooting... I am trying to sell the truck would be nice if it had breaks... -
So for no good reason my 86 MJ seems to have lost its brakes. If you pump rapidly on the pedal they come back for a minute but fade out quickly, the engine does loose RPM while you are holding/pumping the pedal. Makes me think something might have failed in the brake booster causing a vacuum leak once you apply the brakes. Fluid level is good same as it has been no leaks in the system. Truck sat for a year or so before I bought it, changed the front calipers and pads, bled it and drove it home at that time the brakes were normal. Ideas anyone? Thanks, James

Well thanks for all the help and advice. So i picked up the down pipe today for a 1986 S-10 2.8L 4x4. With some slight modification it fits great. Had to move some wiring around, pull the starter and it slid in place. Where is comes together into one pipe is a little long I had to trim it to clear the transmission crossmember. Going to put it in the pipe bender and angle it down an inch or two then bold it in. Also the hols in the flange mount are much larger but that will be a very easy fix. $90 dollars for the down pipe is much better than having one made... Again thanks for all the help. Image Not Found trimmed the bend off so it would clear the crossmember. Image Not Found Flange mounting is a little different but like I said easy fix, I will weld in some washers. Image Not Found

Sorry no.. I ordered the down pipe for the S10 with the 2.8L image looks to be the same, seeing how it is the same engine it has to be close.. Think the only problem might be with the crossmember but will see.. Got the broken bolt out of the head, repaired the exhaust manifold. If the pipe fits the truck will be on the road in a week or two.

Well all the exhaust pipes were wrong. Going to try one more option before I opt out to have one built. Been messing around with the old truck engine runs great once it is warm. Starting is a little ruff it requires a little help. Just a bottle cap full of gas in the carb and it will fire right up, hold the accelerator peddle for a few minutes then it will idle with out assistance. I have to look at the carburator linkage see if anything needs adjustment. Also got to toss in a new fuel filter. Broke an exhaunt manifold bolt off in the head, then a drill bit off in the bolt, then and easy out off in the bolt.... Long day but I dremeled it all out cleaned up the threads and am ready to be done with that project. Hopefully the exhaust downpipe I ordered will work.
