  1. I’m tinkering with my 1988 MJ Pioneer ( 4.0, I6, automatic, 4WD, long bed). I’ve pulled some bucket seats out of a 1990 Cherokee and plan to replace the bench seat in my MJ. While I’m doing that I may as well pull out the carpet. What do you recommend for flooring? Assuming the rust is just light surface rust, I’d wire brush it, sand it and treat it with Ospho (phosphoric acid). Clean off extra and then spray paint with primer. I’m thinking about living without a carpet. Carpet does some sound deadening but the cost is it holds moisture against the floor. But it does protect the floor from tools bouncing in the passenger footwell. Do you prefer leaving the floor exposed metal? Or spray the floor with undercoating? Or spray on the same product used for bedliner? Thanks for your time. DJ1
  2. Does anyone know if the fuel sending unit from a 1987 Comanche will work in an 1988 Comanche? Both are long bed, 4.0, inline 6 cylinder. I've learned an 1986 unit won't work in an '88. The fuel sending unit in the 86 has only one electrical wire while the 88 has two.
  3. Dillithium and ImpulseRocket89, Thank you gentlemen. I appreciate your time.
  4. I've recently bought an '88 Comanche Pioneer, a long bed, automatic, 6 cyl, 4.0. It runs nicely but there's some things that need fixing. First, the gas gauge always reads empty. The previous owner replaced the gauge and instrument cluster and it makes no difference. I had a mechanic do some trouble shooting and he's confirmed it's the sending unit and not electical. But none of his sources can find a replacement Sending Unit. Can anyone recommend a good alternative? Is there any year/model of Cherokee that has a Sending Unit that will fit an '88 MJ with a 23 gallon tank? Or are a lot of you just living with no gas gauge? Carrying Jerry cans and refilling from the trip meter? Thanks for your time.
