Ok, sorry for the late reply but the problem is fixed (so I hope). I cleaned the ground connection at the dipstick really good and i also noticed the nut holding the grounds on the stud wasn't tight at all. I've been driving it and so far no more high idle Thanks everyone for the help... I've learned some new stuff from this

This is weird... I was JUST looking at mine a while ago and wondering the same thing. I was thinking that LED would look out of place or too modern on my MJ but I haven't really looked around for any that look like the fog lights that come on there. Curious to what other say

Ok, its definitely gotta be the TPS. When I got home I checked the vacuum lines and didn't see anything wrong so I cranked it up to see what would happen after sitting all night and most of the day. It ran just fine if not better (might just be in my head) until I tapped the throttle once then it revved up back to 1800 rpm and stayed there. Well i unhooked the TPS and it revved back down. Hooked it back, stayed fine, hit the throttle, revved back up again so its gotta be the TPS and all i need to do is adjust it right?

I'll check them then. Probably could have snagged one by accident. I just didn't think that it could make it idle THAT high. I know that one will change the idle speed slightly if disconnected but I'll still check

Could a vacuum line cause it to idle that high?

I'm actually gonna do that today after work. I looked at it last night and it need cleaning

I use some spray electronics cleaner.I don't know if it could cause this but I may not have let the cleaner evaporate fully and there my have been some sitting in the connector on the TPS. I'll adjust my TPS while I'm at it. I'm sure it won't hurt.

Is there anything salvageable on the XJ that will work with my MJ?

I was doing the C101 connector refreshing on Cruiser's Renix Tips and while I was at it I cleaned the TPS and the IAC (just the connections). Well now I have a high idle problem. It revs up to about 2000 rpms right when you crank it and does not rev down at all.

So what I think I gathered from that is that anything after 99 will not work

I'm to lazy to research this myself and I'm sure someone can answer this quick. I drive an 88 Comanche and I got an 01 Cherokee sitting on the farm. Now my simple question is can I swap in the Cherokee engine with no major work?

Where are they on RockAuto? I couldn't find them. BTW I have an 88 MJ They are listed under Jeep Cherokee, part numbers CH1249106 (Right) and CH1248106 (Left). About $10/ea + shipping. I've used them; they fit pretty well. OK awesome. Thanks hornbrod! I didn't even think about searching for it under Cherokee

I'd like something more stock. Something that just fits right where the old did. I have an 1988 MJ (probably should have stated that first)
