Is the distributor cap for the 87 comanche compatable with the 87 cherokee 4.0

Ill check onto that after I tried to start it over today two or three times it cranked slow and started then died back down. I went to crank it again and it didnt even budge to turn it over. I waited a while and then it turned over again.

Bout hot enough to melt the rubber around the wire

Does anyone know what causes the wire between the solenoid and the starter to get hot when trying to start the engine on 4.0L comanche

I'm confused on this one its like it has compression built up when you try to start it again after it dies but if you wait 30 minutes or so it cranks over.

Ok guys, I have a 1987 Jeep Comanche 4.0L inline 6 that will crank, start, and then die out seconds later. when i go and try to crank it again after that it won't budge as if the engine is locked up. if i give it 30 minutes or so it will crank, start and do the same process over and over again i have been trying to figure this one out for a month. i have replaced the battery, starter, alternator, fuel filter, air filter, plugs, wires, distributor cap, rotor and button. I'm out of brains to figure this one out. help would be appreciated.
