oil pump bad or not?
tylergrant2011 replied to tylergrant2011's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Ive packed oil pumps before with a variety of petroleum based products including vaseline. But technically speaking you can prime with just motor oil only. Ive always bought the new pump and put in a pale of oil and spun it with a drill until oil came out then put it in the car and bolted everything back up and added oil and filter. Then spun the pump with drill till oil pressure builds up good enough to safely start. Never had one to have the gears have no wear at all and just not work. I actually think the sludge from the engine made the pump work so hard it quit. Also Jeep Driver has a good point about passageways being clogged. I'm trying to avoid a rebuild. -
oil pump bad or not?
tylergrant2011 replied to tylergrant2011's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I looked inside the oil pump at the gears it was dry as a bone inside so that tells me its not pulling any oil up. -
Ok so I have an 87 mj 4.0 that has been sitting up for 5 years due to gas milleage. I noticed it was getting no oil after I replaced the valve cover gasket. I changed the oil and filter and still no luck. I took the oil sending unit out and cranked it and no oil coming out of the hole. So I dropped the oil pan. There was a great deal of sludge in the pan. I took the oil pump off cleaned it and the strainer/pickup tube. I put it back on. I put some oil in a container held it over the oil pickup and got someone to crank it and it was not pulling any oil at all. Help would be appreciated.

Is there a kit I can buy -
Does anyone know how/if you can change the oil pressure from the standard light on the dash to a gauge? I know you would have to buy a different sending unit but not sure what to buy.

tylergrant2011 replied to tylergrant2011's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I'm having a crank no start issue. It tries to start for a second but then dies. I'm getting spark to all plugs and fuel to all cylinders. -

If you can't lose compression through o rings on injector head why does air push out the sides of the rings when the piston is coming up near tdc? -
1987 commanche losing compression through o rings I think and you can twist 2/6 injectors easy. Runs then shuts off

Thanks guys and does anyone know where and the part numbers for all the vaccuum lines and pcv? All my plastic hoses arw brittle and the rubber ones are dry rotted. -

cam and crank alignment problem
tylergrant2011 replied to tylergrant2011's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yes I got a new timing chain and sprockets I set #1 cylinder to tdc on compression stroke. I aligned my camshaft with the dot on the crank. My distributor rotor was pointing to #6 I believe. Before all this happened the truck jumped time and I didnt know it I took the whole distributor out and now I'm let where I'm at now. New distributor new timing chain and sprockets new rotor new cap new plugs new wires. But I can't get the dang thing to fire right when I manual set the distributor to number one and line all marks up. -

So if I align at tdc. How can I get my cam to align right with it -
Ok I have a 87 comanche 4.0 that jumped time. I sat it to tdc and aligned the cam pin with crank pin. Took out distributor and adjusted rotor to number one plug. It backfires when trying to start . Any suggestions.? Does timing marks suppose to line up on these motors.
