  1. I have a 1991 short bed 4x4. went to do some maintenance and picked up the truck with a two post lift. well when the tires came off the ground both leaf springs ripped right off the frame. After some research this is a known problem. So to fix I am going to cut the rails off under the cab about an inch. and probably use square tube that will fit the inside of the existing rail. does anyone know the inside measurement of the rail in this location? would be super helpful before I start cutting. My floors are mint don't want to cut to measure if I don't have to. Thanks. Also was thinking just coming off the rails straight instead of the factory curve. This will be a custom flat bed. Anyone do this or know of a link? looking for the best way. Thanks
  2. That's exactly the answer I was trying to find.If the zj "seat"or cushion will bolt to the mj frame I could build a seat from scratch if need be just looking for easy and cheap as my wife and I are giving this to our son for his birthday.
  3. I have the entire seat "assembly" tracks bracket seat etc the seat part the part you sit on is obliterated but the base or track bracket assembly is perfect so if I unbolt the seat is there a factory jeep seat that BOLTS to the factory mj bracket assembly.I can fabricate as I have a set of 2 door xj buckets and was going to to the bench swap. But I am all about the easy if I don't have to cut or drill bonus.Just being lazy so has anyone here done something like this?
  4. Man I hate to start another seat thread. But I can't find a direct answer. So I found a set of mj buckets today for almost free the tracks are good but the seats are hammered. The question is will zj seats bolt to the mj tracks? The local salvage yard has a perfect set of cloth buckets if they will.Or whatr else works with the my tracks? Thanks guys
  5. Except I do not want to build a long bed.The 86 while having an excellent body has nothing else of value.A tired 2.5 a pukegoat D35 and disco 30 not ideal. My 91 is a short bed Auto,4.0 with D44.Also its not a rust bucket just the drivers rocker and corner and the floor.I was thinking that swapping cabs would keep both complete. But I obviously did not understand the unibody thing.I don't want to cut it up,I actually saved it from the crusher.
  6. wow I have been around full size trucks to long, did not realize it would be that much work.
  7. Just to clarify I am building the 91 not the 86 I bought it for $150 just for the body panels. The drive train is pretty much crap I will salvage as much as I can. I tried to sell it nobody wants the whole thing. The only calls I got were for the bed.I was just thinking it might be easier to swap cabs, guess not but thank you guys for your help!
  8. The body on the 86 is super clean but has a very tired 2.5 and transfer case issues.I got it cheap just for the rockers and cab corners I guess its time to start cutting.or what is different on the firewall?radiator support don't matter just want to swap cabs if possible
  9. As the title suggests I was wondering if there were any changes to the cabs thru production?I have a 91 short bed 4x4 but the floors are gone as are the rockers.I just bought a 86 that has a pristine cab and rockers and very little rust on the floors easier to patch anyway. If the cabs are the same it would be way easier to swap the dash to the new cab rather than cutting and welding rockers and such. Thanks guys. Also anyone need a very nice no rust long bed for there project...
  10. I have looked at all options so much so I am confusing myself lol.I was thinking the clayton kit look the best as it has the best looking crossmember but was wondering if square tubing is as good as round?RK kit looks good as well as BDS.I don't have a lot of guys local who run Cherokees or comanches so I have to rely on the forums sometimes just want to build it right the first time. Thanks for the heads up on the 4.5 in springs was hoping to not have to lift it that much and do some trimming. Thanks for the reply and keep the suggestions coming!
  11. Alright guys here is what I'm starting with.91 short bed 4x4 Dana 30 front with the disconnect=trash Dana 35 rear also trash.I have a xj 44 built for the rear will be doing soa so no big deal there. The front is a wagoneer 44 with chevy flat tops for high steer.both with Yukon zip lockers and chromos for 35 km2's or 36 iroks.so my question to you guys is if you had a blank slate how would you build this? Also the wagoner 44 has the tnt truss/coil mount truss on it with the high clearance lower control arm mounts. What do you guys feel is the best crossmember/bellypan for a mj?Is there a mj specific one or get a xj and modify/ who's is best and why?also who has good off the shelf arms for this combo(if any)or is a guy better off fabbing up a set?I really want to three link ths setup so I have looked at all the kits.I have had only my current xj before this on short arms and drop brackets so any and all advice and opinions are welcome.also for lift I;m thinking 4.5 cols with acos (already have acos) so I can fine tune the front. Also anyone here using a waggy 44 front? What are you using for steering? There are a lot of articles on the subject but I like to here first hand what works or what you might change.sorry for the long winded post.So how would you build this? Thanks guys
  12. Hello to all I am new here but not new to jeeps.I have a 91 2 door xj in addition to my new to me 91 short wheelbase short bed 4x4 mj.Anyway this truck is dead stock right now.So I am looking into some lifts.I really like bds long arm kits, but they only make the one I want for xj's.So my question is has anyone here used the xj kit on their mj?I have spoken with their tech guys at length they say it "should" work with minor trimming on the belly pan. This is going to be a bit of a frankenlift What they suggested is to use the arms and track bar from their 6.5 kit with 4.5 springs and Acos (I want them to fine tune the front)but I have a wagoner d44 front with a tnt truss with the raised lca mounts they were not sure if it would work.Any thoughts or suggestions? This is an all around build snow mud rocks, trails, road time,I'm going 35 to 37 tires no bigger d44 is built with jna k kit and rcv axles with hysteer. Again this is my first mj anything that might work better?Shocks will be determind by final lift height tires ect. sorry about the long winded post. Thanks!
