  1. Got my exhaust manifold kit in and the front section of tail pipe. Saving up to get it all installed. $300 labor.. Also, I was wondering what the tow rating is for one of those rear bumper with the receiver built in?
  2. is that the whole tail pipe from manifold to tip? I keep finding it in two pieces online.... one from manifold to catalytic and then the muffler to tip piece for about $90 combined..
  3. I found out that it was just my starter solenoid that was causing my issues.... a connection problem in the hot wire from the battery. Awesome. For now it is starting up great. I will be cleaning all contacts asap. I am going to just have someone put my exhaust manifold in for me. Total parts and labor around $400 and to me it is worth it. I am not quite at the level that I feel confident doing this, although from what I have seen it is a straightforward job.... I will be going to salvage this week to look for some exhaust pipes/mufflers/etc.. perhaps I can find some good condition aftermarket parts for it. Otherwise, for now, I should be ready to go.
  4. Thanks CA..I had the grounds on my list but hadn't checked them yet..I went out and found the battery ground (as seen in pic) did not exist so I added that one. The main ground from block to firewall was secure and clean at the firewall but just placed over one of the bigger block bolts and not secured at all. I need to get the right sized bolt for that and secure. Any suggestion on what that would be awesome. Also, the last ground seen in the pics does not exist either...I need to get some ends/heat shrink/wire to make that one and add it.
  5. I will also need a new exhaust manifold....any ideas on a place to get one that fits my small budget? I see locally for the kits I am looking at around $200 Thanks
  6. Should I take the bedliner out?
  7. On mine I can't even hear a fan blowing when I switch to defrost. The system goes completely quiet.
  8. Heater and fan works great in the floor and dash vents, but when I switch to defrost I get nothing. My truck has no AC from the factory. I have searched for possible solutions but unable to locate anything. Any suggestions on where to start? Factory radio was replaced and I have not looked behind it yet (I read somewhere there is a little piece that slips out perhaps)
  9. Interior is in solid condition... I finished cooling system today. Torqued the thermostat housing too much and cut the gasket. Redid it all to 25lb torque. Started to idle rough after I finished so I cleaned the throttle body out good. White smoke galore and rough idle for about 20 minutes but thankfully it all cleared up. Pretty sure my alternator is shot, I had to jump start it and after idling for about 15-20 minutes I shut it off and it was immediately back to "click" when I tried to restart it. It has a 1.5 year old battery and the cables and connectors are new. I don't have the cash at the moment to invest in a tester so not sure what I'll do next.
  10. Thanks Danby... I have those Renix tips bookmarked for sure. Very good info. Thanks for the advance hookup too man, very cool. The PO kept this thing up pretty darn good so I got lucky as far as updated hoses and other regular items being replaced. I have recently figured out the Google search trick for this forum... It's weird that a browser search is better than the forum search function but I'm sure they are working on it. Little lady from Warsaw, MO actually.. She bought this truck when she was 30ish. :) I may rethink the A/C.. I'm sure after things really heat up around here in SW Missouri I'll be wanting it. Will get some interior pics posted this afternoon. Nice to meet you and thanks again!
  11. Was excited to get the flush completed, but when I got home with my new thermo and gasket, tightened it up and started filling only to have the housing leak out of the bottom bolt. Going to really clean the crap out of it tomorrow and get some silicone on the thermostat itself and let it set before attempting to put the housing and gasket back on. Will also check for cracks on housing cover and pits or bad surface on both. Hopefully, once that is complete and functioning properly I'll be able to go ahead and put the new serpentine belt on. Of course I realized about halfway through this that I should have removed the belt anyway to do the thermo work. Oh well, live and learn. I am definitely a greenhorn at all this but having a good time learning. Bonus, snagged a very close to brand new belt at salvage today.. Deep fresh grooves and not a single crack to be found. The guy gave it to me for free. Also grabbed an extra aluminum valve cover for $12 and an extra temp sensor with connectors for $2. (Renix) some misc hoses and vacuum tips etc.. Pretty good day. Looking forward to tomorrow.
  12. I think perhaps this truck has been converted to the open system since the radiator is newer and has a cap and there is no reservoir present. I guess I should be able to just fill with the cap off and start the engine, adding more coolant until full
  13. can someone give me some advice please. I just flushed my coolant system (renix) and I am about to refill with coolant. I have read that this may be tricky. My problem is that I DO NOT have an overfill coolant tank on the truck. I plan to fill the system up and then start the truck and let it idle. Filling directly into the radiator as needed until completely full. Will this work?? Thanks for any help
  14. figured it out....the line from the back of the valve cover...the rubber gasket that goes into the valve cover is all kinds of worn out. Hope to find one today ..headed to salvage yard now! wish me luck
  15. couple engine pics
  16. can someone tell me what this vacuum nozzle hooks to? it is creating a good deal of vacuum and makes a pretty good hissing noise. The guy at autozone me it was supposed to be like that....lol. I think not
  17. found the original bill of sale which was kind of cool...nearly 25 years ago to the day. all maintenance was kept up great. and another bonus I was unaware of is the new fuel pump and filter installed 2 months ago...
  18. thank you much comancheaddict.. I am doing oil/filter and air filter today then off to the car wash to get the undercarriage cleaned off and also clean the engine compartment (with degreaser and very light spray from hose) to see what else I am looking at..bonus, the PO had a 200 watt explode amp pushing a couple xplode 6x9 behind the seat. i didn't even see that in there when I jumped on this deal!
  19. VIN Lookup please? 1JFT36LXKL584832
  20. I've got rust but no holes!!
  21. thank you much for that info. I am also trying to figure out which motor I have and which tranny....I work from home so everytime I am caught up I run out to look it over a bit more!
  22. will post more pics tomorrow
  23. Here's my short list of the things I need to do first: Fix the exaust. There is a leak in the pipe shortly after it starts out of the manifold. it is not super noisy or anything but bad enough that it won't pass inspection currently. Remove running boards (the lady I bought this from was older and she bought the truck off the showroom floor in 1989) Remove wind visors on side windows (cracked and crappy) Check entire vehicle thoroughly for rust starting with the floors. Repair areas. I will probably end up going with some sort of rubberized liner on the floors. Thorough engine cleaning and under carriage cleaning so I can see exactly where I stand and what may need attention the most. The steering wheel has about half an inch of play in it..not sure if this is in the steering components or not...I would guess needs alignment and adjustment. valve cover seal serpentine belt washer fluid res replaced check all hoses and replace as needed Headliner replace check all joints, boots, rods etc and grease when possible or replace as necessary. Check brakes All of the service records come with the truck and I am excited to go through them all tomorrow when I pick it up. Has the bench seat and I will be scrapping for bucket options but not a big deal. Does not have tilt, would love to get a tilt column. Salvage yard time. Did not come with A/C (not included new) May see about what can be done there..but not a huge deal . Needs window and door seals replaced (salvage) One question I do have is what models work for the 89? 86-96? MJ and XJ? Thanks for any info on that.
  24. Thank you.. .. Your's too! Awesome scenery there. Looking forward to it.
