  1. Thanks a ton, I think I will get the one that is available and make the changes that may be necessary. Just a little more time spent learning about the ole Comanche!
  2. Thanks again, I found a '88 with a floor shift automatic but the 4 liter vin indicates it is a part time four wheel drive I am guessing it is a 231. does anyone know if the 86 and 88 would have the same spline count? there doesn't seem to be a lot off cases out there to pick from, but I think I can get one of these for about $100 or $150 at a local salvage yard
  3. I think you are on to something with the 242 but don't have the 228 out yet to see the splines. will stop at salvage yard today looking for that info
  4. thanks guys, I do not have the CAD and in the center consul there is the vacuum 2 to 4 drive switch and the lever hi to low on the left side of consul. when up on stand the front shaft and wheels spin but while on the ground(ice) back wheels spin with nothing up front. I've been told the differential in the t'case is shot and as a side note the hi to low lever seems frozen. That is why I was leaning towards a replacement but was worried about bolt patterns and the spline count and what year the switch was made. thanks again, it's nice to have a site like this for good advise
  5. Please help, I am hoping somebody would know which transfer cases I can use to replace my 1986 np228 or am I better off rebuilding the one I have. while up on stand both front and back drive shafts spin but only has back spinning while on snow or ice.
