So the 87 is not carburated? What is the TBI? Throttle body injected? Your right I should check for spark before I spend the money on a distributor.

I have been searching for a good Jeep Comanche for quite a few months and any time a clean one came available they were either way to expensive or gone the next day. I talked to the wife and got permission to jump on the next one I found for a reasonable price and clean. Here is what I have. It has 31/1050R15's on some nice aluminum rims. The rims and tires brand new were $1200. I did not pay that much for the entire truck. The truck was sitting for 8-9 months. The guy I bought it from said he bought it for his 19 yo daughter hoping that her "redneck" friends would fix it up lol. The Hulk I pulled the two seats and the crappy plastic liner/insulation and it was soaked. I was really worried it was gonna be a disaster under there but it had a "restoration" not to long ago. This is what I found. I hope to have it running with in the next couple weeks. I put a new battery in it and changed the spark plugs. It will turn over but won't start. It needs the head gasket done, it looks like someone used RTV... I am planning on leaving it mostly stock for now and just getting up and on the road and then down the road I'll do the Cherokee 4.0/AW4/Front end swap. I am not planning on starting anything until the rust is taken care of and she is running.

I just brought home a very clean 87 I4, 4 spd. Manual, 6' bed. It will turn over but won't catch and start. I changed the spark plugs, they were extremely fouled! I am thinking it might not be getting fuel, maybe the carburetor float is stuck or the filter is clogged or the fuel pump is bad. I need to put the battery back in and see if I hear the fuel pump. I'm also thinking it might not be getting spark. Maybe the spark plug wires are bad (need to be changed anyway) or the distributor? Hoping it isn't the (not sure of the acronym)ecu? Just wanna get it running so the wife will get off my behind about buying a piece of junk.
