In my 87 comanche the front end will not engage. did they make the comanche with lockers on the front axes?

I have a 87 comanche that I am wanting to put a V8 into it. I am wanting to put a 318 out of a 87 ram. What is the best way to go about? Will the 5 speed out of the jeep bolt up or do i need to find a bell housing adapter to reuse it? PFC Hibbs
