  1. 1990 model 4.0 L; No sputtering just dies, and will restart.
  2. I bought my Comanche a couple weeks ago. I had trouble getting it to start properly at first until I read some of the posts about the computer needing several revolutions of the engine to calibrate itself. Now it turns over a few times and starts right up. About once a week, at low speed, or at a light, it will die. I wonder if this is a computer going out? Please let me know your thoughts and experience. Thanks, Bill
  3. Thanks to everyone for the good intentions regarding sticking up for something I enjoy. I was just playing along with the thumping and colorful language, but after re-reading all the posts, I realize I have given many the wrong impression, and I need to clarify: My wife does not dislike my truck, she just has a general notion that cars must be under warranty, or gotten rid of. She was appalled that I would take on an 18 year old vehicle. The fact that I would, made her wonder what specifically attracted me to the vehicle. I didn't have a good answer. It is not the first time she has been appalled in this way, as I have something of a history of this sort of thing. Last year my project was a 1974 Bronco. I rebuilt the engine and largely restored it to good condition, then sold it a couple months ago. My wife also has a clean thing, which doesn't really fit well with truck parts scattered everywhere. In the end she is used to my eccentricity, and tolerates it. I would still like to hear all the pros and even the cons of Comanches. I know they have strong motors, good towing capacity and payload, crappy floor pans and strong appeal of uniqueness...
  4. Well I normally prefer to have an intelligent response at hand, but I will take it under advisement that instead I should just thump her up side the head and say: Now Gorgeous Puss, yer purty, but too dumb to 'preciate a 'manche; Now shaddup an' give Daddy some sugar! In the meantime, if anyone has any other outstanding comanche features they would like to share, I would appreciate the information. Thanks, Bill
  5. Thanks for the replies; You guys posted some good stuff. I agree some of the stuff about the engine, capacities and axles is compelling, but I am leaning toward the intangibles involved around the uniqueness. I am also inclined to think it is something you get or you don't get, and it is unlikely it can be explained sufficiently to persuade a non-believer. I guess I will go back outside and see if the POR15 has set up on my rotten floor pan... :shake:
  6. I have always liked the look of the Comanche as small trucks go. However, I am hard pressed to say why. I recently decided I needed a small truck for utility purposes at my acreage. I bought a 1990 model that runs strong, and I have since gotten compliments on the look of the truck. However, my wife was appalled that I would buy an 18 year old truck of any kind, and specifically asked, "What is so great about a Comanche?" I didn't really have a good answer for her, so I would appreciate some good solid reasons to share with anyone who asks. - Thanks
  7. Thanks for the info. Any idea where to get a replacement, or from what year models or other vehicles I could get one? Thanks!

  9. The piece between the hood and windshield with a grill and screen, with housing for the wipers. Mine is cracked, and I need to know what it is called to help find one. - Thanks

  11. I bought a 1990 Comanche a couple days ago. In going through it, I noticed the loose plug pictured below. It comes from the group of wires near the battery, has one black wire and one red, and was resting near the firewall behind the reservoir. Can anyone tell me where it is supposed to plug in? - Thanks! http://www.falzett.com/wire.jpg
