Well, I decided to let you know how this came out. Took a Weber conversion carb up to the Comanche, bolted it in (it took more time to get the old carb off than the new carb on), put a gas filter on the fuel line, traded out the battery - and the truck started right up. I drove it around, and although I will have to get the vacuum hoses plugged and sorted out, it is now movable.
For those of you who thought that I should have gotten the old carb working, you have no idea how out of the way this property is, on the side of a mountain in a very unpopulated county. So now my utility truck is working, and I am content.
