Good tips guys! thanks! Checked it all out today... Noise is definately coming from the head on the left side. Did the screwdriver to on the valve cover trick and listened through the screw driver... Noise seems to be almost dead center of the head on the left hand side... I will take the valve cover off tomorrow and see if any of the push rods seem spongy... Went to autozone today... got new thermostat, water pump, serp belt, plug, wires, 02 sensor, crank sensor, temp sensor....

Wait, why can't I run it without coolant? :dunno: j/k :yes: Ihave only been running it up to 190 and turning it off just to try and locate the noise... I will give you guys an update tomorrow when I have time to actually look at it... thanks for the help!

I will check on it... would be interesting to know :hmm: My oil pressure seems to stay right around 40 at all times... I looked in the radiator and there is no coolant left it seems... or at least not alot... I may try filling it and see if I have any smoking issues... I went and started it up this afternoon and the noise seemed to get louder as the tempurature began to rise... I won't be able to really look at it until tomorrow afternoon... hopefully I can find something.

Alright so I got ahold of a 92 comanche today for 300 bucks with a salvage title... but it is probably the cleanest one I have personally seen. I do have some questions about some engine noise though... here is the run down. The previous owner overheated it and the head ticks pretty good... What I am not sure of is if this is caused by the overheating or not... It does not smoke at all, the oil has no apparent water in it and it is not milky, and it runs very strong.... With all of this being said I am ruling out that the headgasket seems to be fine as well as having no head warp... I am imaging it has a bad lifter or more than one bad lifter... but would overheating cause this? He said he started noticing the ticking after the overheting incident... this makes me think that it is more than just the lifters... I plan on doing a full tune up, replacing the o2 sensor, crank sensor, etc.... Any other thoughts on what this is? I will say that it does not go away when it get warm and sometimes it is louder than other times.... :help:

Everything works awsome now. The lead to the starter relay was bad. The body mount/engine ground was also shot. Thanks all for your help. Hopefully I can start a build up thread here shortly!

Awesome. I am going out now to work on it. Is the the other lead coming off of the positive side of you battery a thick red wire? Appears to maybe go to the alternator...??? :dunno:

Thanks for the info! :cheers: As I mentioned I am somewhat new at dealing with wiring type issues... for some reason I have never had any electrical problems in any of my vehicles... suprising (i've owned some beaters) The truck is a 1989 4.0 6cyl. (renix) 5-speed I cannot even get my lights to turn on... I have been trying that for the last two days as from what I have read previously that was seperate... When I turn the key I still get nothing. I have absolutly nothing turning on... i mean nothing! No lights, guages, fuel pumps, starters... anything. I have started looking into the starter relay and I have also got a new key cylinder to replace if need. The rod seems to be working fine and I set up the switch properly (triple checked it)

I seem to be coming up short on everything. Checked all my wires and nothing... Could this be the ECM? Does the ECM itself have a fuse???

Yeah my battery has a perfect charge. I think that is what is going to need to happen... I think I may replace all of those relays and all and maybe check out the box with all of the fusable links are attatched to... I would not be suprised if some stuff is fried... the guy that had it has no clue what he was doing...

I did find a bare wire at the fusable link... fixed it and nothing... absolutely nothing... I still turn the key and absolutely nothing in the vehicle turns on....

I can jump the starter and it will turn over. My problem is is that the key does not turn anything else in the truck on... absolutely nothing else. Fuses checked out ok... I'm thinking bad ecu???

Replaced the switch.... still nothing...

That is what I am guessing... Everything looks really well put together and clean... I doesn't look as though any of the wires under the dash have been tampered with....

I finally got my comanche back after almost a year after it was stolen and the thing is pretty torn up.... Anyway I have reconnected my battery cables with new wires and all but when I turn the key I get absolutely nothing... not even my accessories turn on. It is a brand new battery and brand new cables.... I am guessing it has something to do with the key switch or somewhere in there. no wires are hacked... everything is plugged up... Anybody have any ideas on where I should even begin? I am pretty new to dealing with this type of problem....
