Rear Bumper Ideas And Opinions
Southpaw26 replied to Southpaw26's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I have not seen many other options. And as mentioned the price is pretty darn attractive. Anyone know of any similar options available? -
I am going to have to get a new rear bumper for my truck. The one I have is not awful just not good enough for me for what I am trying to do with the truck. I was looking at this bumper on eBay http://www.ebay.com/itm/121015395959?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649. I kinda of like it but just not in love with it. It seems to be a pretty good price since it comes with D-Ring mounts and receiver. Any other reasonably priced suggestions? And am I right that a XJ bumper will not work at all?

I bought a lift kit from them for a Suzuki Samurai. They are extremely nice people and offer EXCELLENT customer service. I have told many people about them and always recommend them. You will be impressed. -
Bought A 2000 Xj Today For Comanche Upgrades

New front end is now on. The swap was pretty much a breeze. I took the old front end back off the Comanche and put it on the 2000 XJ. Since the XJ is a running driving 4x4 XJ. Doors I have not tackled yet. Still trying to decide on what I want to do. My preference would me a set of non power doors. But I just don't ever see any 1997 and up XJ's without out power doors. -

I guess the glove box not opening is not a huge concern. -

Firewall? I do not plan to swap in the engine or dash. Only exterior cosmetics, center console, carpet, and oh yes the windshield. -

Pulled My Carpet Out Today

I am putting in a new windshield anyways. I think am going to go with the new style rubber windshield gasket. I was told it will go right in. So what should I use to fix the small pin holes? -
Pulled My Carpet Out Today
Southpaw26 replied to Southpaw26's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I thought this looked pretty good. That is with no cleaning. It was pretty wet under there. The padding was wet for sure. Not really sure why. I am guessing just age and maybe a window left down at some points along the way. The PO had had someone to make a second carpet kit at some time and they literally just put it over the original. So there was two layers of carpet and the backing pad of course. -
Well I pulled my carpet out today as advised by Pete M. What I found was not all so bad I do not think. I found less than eight small rust holes. All of them smaller than a dime and most smaller than a eraser on a pencil. I am thinking my best coarse of action here is to use a wire brush and then Ospho everything. From there I thought I would follow up with a treatment of POR15 or some Rustoleum rust bare metal primer. What do you guys think? Am I heading in the right direction? What would you use to cover the small rust holes? How does it look compared to most? Thanks Pete for the warning in your Sig.

Thanks Pete. I have just found a Rough Country lift (http://4wdtruck.com/jeepparts/lift-kits-c-573/rough-country-c-573_577/rough-country-3-lift-kit-8693-mj-comanche-p-19582.html). It seems very reasonable. Does this appear to be a good deal? And how much will my ride quality be diminished?

Ok so I have found the coil spacers and shackles that I would like to use to lift my truck. I believe I have decided on a 2" coil spacer for the front and a 1.5" shackle for the rear. I am thinking this should make the truck about level. Will I be needing anything elese? Like longer shocks, extended links for the sway bar, or different pitman arm?
-
I am looking for a new tailgate handle in good condition. Mine is kinda rough. Let me know what you have.
-
Would up to a 2" coil spacer still be ok? When you say leaf spring spacers you don't mean the extended length shackles do you? And of course I would be only using those on the rear. So even if so not a real big deal correct?
-
Comanche looks good jimoshel. Guys I have seen the coild spacers on ebay and even what appeared to be some pretty nice shackles to raise the rear a bit. I do think I want to bring it up some. Are the coil spacers dangerous at all? And are they hard to put in? Thanks guys for chimming in with some very helpful answers.
-
I would like to raise my Comanche up just a little. My goal would to be able to run 31 10.50's and gain a little more height. I do not plan on wheeling the comanche any at all. I would like to keep the ride as close to stock as possible. I have been looking at a few different ways of doing this. I have seen some coil spacers or longer coil springs for the front. I have have seen longer shackles or helper springs for the rear. I think I am just wanting to raise it up 2"-3". What do you guys think would be best / most cost effective for what I am looking for. And will 2"-3" we enough lift on the comanche to make it work with the 31's and look good?

Ok how would I know if it is compete HO? What year did the HO become available?

Just wanted to say hello to everyone. I recently acquired a 1988 Jeep Comanche Pioneer 4x4 automatic with a 4.0 engine. Very excited to begin fixing this Comanche up. Seems to be a very solid truck. I was told that the truck had a 1999 model engine installed. I have the engine code on the front of the motor but don't know if it is indeed a 1999 engine. Any help on this would be great.
