I will try and get some pics of the rusted area. its a pretty nice truck otherwise, and if I buy it I do want to fix it properly. Can you even arc weld thin gauge metal that these trucks are built out of? I was under the impression that MIG was best for the Unit-body? Eh what do I know any ways?

So I have been searching for a while for a used MJ, and I have had to be patient because I fairly firmly want a 91 or 92 MJ with a 4.0L, AW4, 4wd, and A/C. (I woulds take a 5-speed too!) So I found one locally, and it is in pretty good shape despite my location in the rust belt. The truck has some small issues that I can fix slowly over time, but it also has one issue that scares me a bit: The unit-body is not very rusty except in a one foot section of the Pseudo-frame rail on the passenger side just under the passenger seat. Both sides of the rail have holes. None of the holes are very large (maybe quarter size at most), but they are there, and there are more on the inside of the rail than out side. Oddly there are no holes through the bottom of the Pseudo-frame in this area. I think I could patch it, but maybe its not worth the trouble. Please give opinions and or information if you have it. Is this a fatal rust spot for an MJ? Also I have a MIG welder, and I am not afraid to use it, but i am not sure if there is a good way to fix/patch this? thanks!

the MJ is at 120,000 miles roughly and I have not bought it yet. its in really really good shape and that is kind of the problem the guy wants too much for it, but it is really clean... it may be worth it... I also don't need another jeep this would be number 3. At the same time I really want a MJ... Damn decisions! thanks for the advice though.

So I have always wanted a MJ, and lets say hypothetically that I found one in my home town which is 7 hours drive from where I live now. I could buy the MJ, and drive it home (its in really good shape for an 89), but here is the catch I also have a '49 cj-3a (think MASH jeep) in my parents garage and I need to get it home too (my parents want it out of there garage). Can I flat tow the flattie for 7 hrs with a 19 year old MJ??? the MJ is rated to tow 5000lbs and a cj-3a weighs 2500lbs?? maybe... P.s. the MJ is a 4.0L auto..... am I crazy... yes..., but can I do this without killing the MJ

will an 88 2.5 be fuel injected/Renix or carburated? thanks.

I dunno if I should buy it. it turns out its an 88' 2.5 manual (the dealer had it listed as auto Duh!) 2wd. the motor is bad too! they are asking $700.00. I want a 4.0L 4x4 and tranny type is not so important to me. what do you all think? I don't mind waiting, or undertaking a huge drivetrain swap:).

so even if it has 4.56:1 won't it be a Dana 35? I may go look at it. I think I can handle a 4.0L/4x4 swap?

So I am continuing the search for a MJ and I found a 88 2wd 4-cyl auto with a bad motor. I am not opposed to a motor swap any ways, but what auto would a 88' 4-cyl have in it? thanks

its tempting, but a bit far to go this weekend as the inlaws are coming for Thanksgiving. thanks for the link though.

Oopse they sold it. :cry: any one know of a 4.OL Auto MJ out there for sale preferabley 4x4 not too far from Ohio?

So I have owned many jeeps including 2 XJs and now I think I want a MJ. I have found a nice 92 4.0L, auto,long bed but its 2wd (not a porblem) and does not have A/C (larger problem). its otherwise very nice. I am also willing to wait, but I wonder how bad the older 4.0L renix injection is? can it be swapped out for the HO injection, or am I better off holding out for a 91 or 92 MJ? I want to make a nice DD and occasional trail runner with maybe 31s or 32s. thanks and I hope to be posting some pics of my own MJ here soon. :D
