benevolentelephant
Hi There - Weird clutch problem with my '87 2wd 'Manche (4-cylinder). I was happily driving along yesterday, when suddenly the clutch pedal went to the floor and I couldn't select any gears. When I had a look, this is what had happened: The clutch pedal bolts to a pushrod: this in turn is secured to the master cylinder plunger by a spring clip (a rubber boot covers this). The spring clip had come off, allowing the pushrod to come away from the rest of the cylinder assembly. 'No problem!' I thought. 'There's no fluid leak, I'll put back the spring clip and I'm away again.' WRONG!!!! When I offered up the pushrod to to the plunger, the pedal was only an inch from the floor: as though the pushrod were suddenly about 4 inches too short. What's happened?? The pedal is still on it's pivot OK: the pushrod is still fixed to the pedal lever OK: yet it seems now too short to reach the cylinder. Oh, and surprisingly, the Haynes manual doesn't help. If anyone has any thoughts I'd be very grateful: I don't want to buy a whole master cylinder to fix such a dumb problem! Many thanks Bruce
