1989 shortbed 2wd 2.5L. I have a complete lift minus shocks, a 1991 2.5L parts cherokee with the axles, transfer case and transmission removed to install in the Comanche. Very solid little jeep. To see full description and pics search comanche under Kansas City craigslist cars and trucks for sale.

Pics can be seen by searching for Comanche under cars and trucks for sale on Kansas City craigslist.

The truck is a 2.5 L, 4 cylinder, 2wd. I bought this truck about 2 years ago from a guy in Lawrence. He told me he saved it from being crushed out of a junk yard in Wichita. When I bought it the transmission was in the bed. I bought a used 2wd transmission and installed it. It fired right up and I have been driving it back and forth to work 80 mile round trip) for a while. It has required some repairs to get it running and in the shape it is in. The only real rust I have found on the jeep was in the floor boards. I made my own patches and cut out the rust and welded them in. I seam sealed it all and then used Raptor liner on the floor. It has a small dent above the driver side tail light, another below the pass. side tail light, and one on the back edge of cab behind the driver. All are not very big and very fixable. I put a new rotor on one side (not sure which) and new brakes on the front. I have installed a new fuel pump and cleaned out the tank. New plugs and wires. The distributer looks brand new. New battery, O2 sensor, ujoints in the drive shaft and chased down a lot of vaccum leaks and repaired, and charged AC system with environsafe R12 substitute. I have a new fuel pressure regulator and coolant temp sensor (85.00) that will go with it. I was replacing sensors trying to figure out why it wasn't running right. Ended up that I had bought faulty spark plug wires. The heater, AC and defrost all work but the fan doesn't blow real hard, not sure why?

The truck is not perfect. It does leak oil around the valve cover, airbox line and vacuum port. It also leaks oil around the oil pressure sensor. It uses / leaks about a quart of oil every 600-700 miles. I am not sure how much it leaks compared to if it is burning any. It smokes occasionally at start up, but I would say only once out of every 25 starts, it doesn't smoke going down the road and actually runs really well for an 89 4 banger. I have not done a compression test on leak down test on the motor, but it runs to well to have very many problems. I would guess it has a bad valve seals, which would make sense if it sat in a salvage yard for very long.

Now for the fun stuff.
I have the all the parts to convert this truck to 4wd.
Used 4wd drive transmission and transfer case out of a 1991 4cy Cherokee
Both axles out of the same Cherokee which should be 4.10 gears.
I will throw in a set of axles out of a 1985 Cherokee also if you want them.
I also have what is left of the 1991 Cherokee. Can probably scavenge a few parts off of it. The motor is bad. I can help load the Cherokee, but the axles are removed and will be loaded with a tractor so expect it to get some dents in the process.

Complete lift kit (except shocks)

Iron Rock Off Road double shear adjustable track bar 258.99
Rubicon Express control arm drop bracket kit 269.99
5.5" lift coil springs 174.99
Barnes 4wd leaf spring perches 39.50
MOOG sway bar links 40.00

total 842.00

I think you will be hard pressed to find another short bed Comanche in this good of shape that runs and drive. I am firm on the price, it is paid for and if it doesn't sell I will keep in and do the 4wd conversion. It have the title.

$2500.00, I more than this in it.

I would consider trades for a cj7 hard top and cj rollbar that will fit a 1985, a yj rollbar, or a good 5.3L with full wiring harness, ECM, and 4wd 4l60E trans.
