The rear should clear easily and I think the front should clear as is, but since I bobbed the bed I noticed it has a rake to the front. reson46 Posted August 12, 2014 Author Share Posted August 12, 2014 For the third time I joined the Rainier Scramblers on their annual Stag Run. This year we went to Rimrock. We lost a couple of rigs within the first half mile of the first trail, but the rest of the trip was great. Tom demonstrating his displeasure with his Jeep's cooling problems. Shortly after Tom decided to turn back Brian's rear driveshaft decided to depart from his XJ. I think the spring wrap from this broken block led to the u-joint straps ripping apart on the rear yoke. With those two rigs down we had nine left that made their way up to Narrowneck Gap. The views on the way were incredible. This is Mt. Adams in the background. Mt. Rainier the other direction. Mt. Adams from on top of Narrowneck Gap. It is hard to make out but Mt. Hood was also visible behind Mt. Adams. Mt. Rainier from on top of Narrowneck Gap. We camped at Blue Lake Saturday night. Sunday morning we made our way to Blue Slide Lookout. Mt. Rainier in the background. Mt. Adams Next to Long Lake at the bottom of Louie Way Gap. We started Pucker Ridge before a few in the group decided not to go past this. More pics here. It ended up just Ron and I but we had a good time, even though Saturday ended up being a very long day wedging ourselves through trees. We did a little sight seeing on the way. We stopped at Clear Creek Falls on highway 12. This is looking towards Rimrock Lake from Clear Creek Falls. Clear Creek Falls Upper Clear Creek Falls Our camp site for the weekend. We weren't far from Pucker Ridge so we stopped by to check it out. Ron wasn't interested in going past this point. :hmm: After crossing and turning around. After lunch we made our way up to Short & Dirty Ridge. Mt. Rainier in the clouds. Blue Slide Lookout looking towards Mt. Rainier. After this we hit a trail that was very narrow. A short line on the map turned into several hours of negotiating between tightly spaced trees. We were all pretty worn out and ready to head back to camp by the end of it. Here we are at one of the few open spots along the trail - Jeeping Nomad Meadow. Sunday we did some leisurely exploring around Rimrock Lake. Clear Lake Falls. On the way home. More pics here. Those pics of Pucker Ridge should be a lesson to everyone on here that's building a trail rig...... I left Wednesday evening and drove over to the Bumping Lake Campground where we stayed Wednesday and Thursday night. Stopped off at Chinook Pass on the way. Thursday morning we loaded up the trailer with rocks for the approaches and made our way to the trail. The repaired wash out on Deep Creek Road. The beginning of the Copper City trail on Deep Creek Road. Buld site of the first bridge. It's on a pretty tight turn. The forest service has already dug out and reinforced the approaches on each side as they had washed away over the years. Digging trenches for the sills. Sills in place. Placing the stringers. This pic I really enjoyed which shows the difference between your bobbed long bed and a normal long bed. To me, your bobbed LWB looks way better than a SWB because of the additional wheelbase. It looks more proportioned. That's the way they should have been from the factory. I'd love to do it on mine not for wheeling, but purely for looks................ One stayed to finish securing the planks on the first bridge. The other group started on a second bridge further up the trail. You can see some of the remnants of the old bridge. Sills in place. After lunch I did a little exploring. This was supposedly the site of a hotel for very friendly ladies. It looks like there was a shed on the back side that was completely full of firewood when it was abandoned. This is the site for the third bridge, a foot bridge, we would build. Setting the stringers. We temporarily set some of the planks on the stringers before leaving. Jim thought he had run out of gas. In a way he did. If you look close you can see a nice new dent on the top driver side of his gas tank, just below the tailgate and above the frame. Apparently he had backed into something very solid in just the right spot. After transferring 5 gallons of gas from Gary's Jeep we noticed that the fuel line ran right next to that dent and he ripped it apart. A quick splice and he was moving again. reson46 Posted September 23, 2014 Author Share Posted September 23, 2014 Friday night we moved camp to Jim Sprick Park to meet up with Pick Up a Mountain hosted by region 4 of the PNW4WDA. Saturday we had a lot more help thanks to Pick Up a Mountain. This time we were able to break up into three groups - one to finish nailing the planks on the first bridge and add rub rails, one to finish the second bridge, and another to work on the foot bridge. Dan R. and Dan L. joined me to finish the second bridge. Here we have the end plates installed and are securing the planks. Planks installed and the approach filled in with rocks. Rub rails added. Rock added to the other approach. While we were working on the second bridge another group was building the third bridge, a foot bridge at the end of the trail. Here they have one of the sills set and are moving a stringer into place. Once we completed the second bridge we moved to the end to help them with the foot bridge. Setting the stringers. Regardless it's awesome work you guys do, we should all commend your group for your hard work. 95 percent of the people in our sport take and never give back.... very few would put forth the effort..... nice work.
