Windshield Glass Replacement

I'm going to have my windshield replaced by Safelite and move to the rubber trim.

 

In an effort to minimize the confusion, am I best off reserving the glass and install as a 1998 Cherokee?

For those that have had this done, should I remove the metal trim and clips beforehand or is this something a competent installer should just be able to handle?

 

The prices *are* different between a 1988 Comanche and a 1998 Cherokee.  (Cherokee is cheaper.)

The metal pins are out of the way enough. All that is needed is to remove the plastic clips that slide on them.

Tell en its a 98 cherokee and drop it off. Don't need to do anything else

Yes. However the newer jeep will advertise a 1 piece rubber Weatherstripping that they will use in place of the trim. Fit may vary a bit (it's what I have on mine).

That's what I'm looking for.  I was planning on removing the metal trim (permanently).

That's what we've done too. I asked the glass installer to give me back the metal trim, but no regrets with the rubber seal. Don't have to worry about it flying off or coming off in a car wash.
