haha. i'm hoping to have my "camper" built by then too...going to use the top of my 2 door cherokee + the shortbed/swb frame i've got, and build a popup trailer. gotta figure out the sides though.

1 Jeep, 1 dad (me) and 11 year old daughter, 1 or 2 tents.

Do we need to make reservations for the park or camping? Does anything need to be paid in advance?

Where's a good place to attach recovery hooks? Where's a good (cheap) place to get them? I don't care if the hooks get bent pulling me out of wherever I probably should not have tried to go, just don't want to mess up my front bumper or bend the rear one more than it already is. I never did find a way to directly hook a chain to the frame front or back.

At least my Suburban came with 2 15,000 pound hooks front and class III receiver rear from the factory. Might put a receiver on the Jeep for my bike rack, but possibly not in time for the trip.

you shouldn't need reservations (i've never made them and i've been there 10 plus times).

you can get front tow hooks either from the junkyard or from Motion Offroad http://motionoffroad.com/catalog/index. ... ucts_id=90.

for the rear, i have a receiver with a d-ring shackle that i put in my trailer hitch.

oh, and i wouldn't recommend using a chain recovery, i always use a strap.

Yeah, I know of the damage a chain can do if it breaks or comes loose under strain. But you gotta use what you got.

I have never had to pull out a seriously stuck truck. Mostly just pulling cars out of ditches and towing the 26" box truck out of the dock when it's icy.

Thanks for the link on the hooks.

yeah, i suppose you gotta use what you have. I've seen some pretty crazy stuff from chains breaking.

hope to meet you in July. :D

Can't go this year. I just figured out the math. 612 miles from my house with the MJ getting 10 MPG is about 61 gallons of gas at 3.25 equals $200 times two ways, equals $400 plus $200 on fees and lodging plus $180 on food, plus $20 on rum plus who know what else? (Are there any casinos or strip joints on the way? :D ) Brings my grand total to about $1000  not counting any parts I break along the way or wheeling.

I should probably spend that on the lift anyways this year.

BUUUT, if you guys are still around next year, I should be ready and will definately see you there  Hey, to all going. Good luck, have fun, and may the force be wit ya!!!!

10 MPG? I got 10 on my first tank of gas, half of which leaked out onto the ground. 14 since then, on a neglected truck. About 16 now that I've done most of a tune-up.

And how in the heck do you spend $180 on food for a weekend? Gas grill and burgers! jamminz.gif

Hmm, rum? I think I'll got for vodka and OJ, or Mike's. Either way, $20 is about right. Can't go too crazy since my 11 year old will be spotter/co-pilot.

Somebody please tell me fees and tenting isn't going to cost me $200. I only get to $53 for two night tenting and 1 day playing for the two of us.
