MississippiComanche
I'm sure this is the 1000th post about deleting EGR's, but I'd thought I'd ask since I have mine removed for exhaust manifold replacement. I looked at the EGR valve and it seems to have a bunch of gunk in it. Wondering if I should replace it or get some block off plates? I've read people arguing both sides of this. What do yall think? eaglescout526
What’s great is that EGR is a GM Rochester EGR so they can be found vs the 4.0L. Now a lot of guys usually delete the one for the 4.0, never have I seen anyone ask about the 2.5L. Now if you live in a state that doesn’t require emissions, you can remove it, the solenoid and vac harness for the EGR and be done.
MississippiComanche
Mississippi does not do vehicle inspections or tests. I'm more concerned about the pros and cons. Wondering if it will run better without it and will it be smellier without it?
eaglescout526
You might be one of the few walking into uncharted territory with that one. I haven’t heard of many if at all of deleting the EGR on the 2.5L. Some say that deleting such helps an engine run better. I don’t think smell should be an issue unless your cat is failing.
GonzoTheGreat
I deleted mine. I put a 2.5L TJ exhaust header on, so I removed the whole EGR system because it didn’t fit the headers. I didn’t notice any changes in drivability or aroma. Maybe it’s keeping the intake a little cleaner, but I doubt I’ll be opening that up to check for quite some time. MississippiComanche
@GonzoTheGreat does the engine seem to run better without the EGR or is it even a noticeable difference?
GonzoTheGreat
I noticed absolutely no difference from the driver’s seat. Granted the ‘89 has an automatic, so the responsiveness of the engine is a little muddled, but I really don’t think it changed much.
MississippiComanche
I'm thinking about either cleaning out the one I have or buying a new EGR valve. If theres no benefit to removing it, I might as well keep it.
