Rick A
I have ordered two fan shrouds that are way too small for the fan and radiator for my '86 2.8L V6 MJ (they say "Guaranteed to Fit Your 2.8L V6". The fan is 16" in diameter, the shroud connection points are at the horizontal edges of the radiator sides, about 21 1/2" apart. The fan is offset from center by about 2". I lost the original in the rebuild, and photos on the internet don't give enough detail. I'm wanting to bring the engine bay back to OEM. I've looked at '84-'88 S-10 shrouds for this engine which look like they come in two parts but there are no dimensions in the ordering information. Does anyone have experience with a fan shroud for this engine?
eaglescout526
Same fan shroud as the 2.5L. Fun fact, both 2.5 and GM 2.8 share the same radiator and fan shroud. So you might find someone who has one or internet. I know someone recently found an 85 in a yard. It might have the shroud.
Rick A
I have partial pictures of 2.8L V6 engines, and the tops of the shrouds do in fact match what the internet shows for the 2.5L. I'll try one more time, and thank you very much for that information. The parts yards here in San Antonio NEVER have the 2.8L engine but I'll call about the 2.5s. eaglescout526
Definitely 2.5’s are more plentiful and used the same shroud for quite a while. Just make sure you don’t get a YJ or TJ one.
schardein
There is an 86 XJ with the 2.8 in a yard 1.5 hours from me. I'll be by there again in about 2 weeks, if you would like me to grab the shroud.
dasbulliwagen
Thge 2.8 and 2.5 shrouds were not the same, one of them is offset to one side. I had that issue years ago. Someone needs to look into that better.

dasbulliwagen
Way back when, I wanted to convert to electric fan with a used WJ fan I had. I couldn't use the 2.5 shroud due to the offset, but I had 2 2.8 shrouds that I cut up and epoxied to the fan to mount it, as they were more centered on the radiator. I used it that way for several years.
Greenjeans
The S-10 isn’t even close. I picked one up and threw it away. My factory shroud was cut in half by some previous owner…. I am just running the top half of my original, it’s all I have. But in south GA it’s working fine. 🤷🏼
zomeizter
I removed the shroud off mine when I went with the Taurus e-fan mod, if I find it, you can have it OP.
