Identifying Lift/Leaf Springs on my Comanche

Recommended Posts

I need some help identifying the leaf springs/lift kit on my 1988 Comanche. Unfortunately, I don't really have a lot of background on the truck -- I got it a while ago from a used car dealer who also didn't have much background on the vehicle, only that he believed it was in great shape for its age. The price was very right, and so far the dealer was right about the truck being pretty much hassle-free.

Lately, I've been thinking of upgrading the truck to pull a small camper. Essentially upgrading it with the parts for a metric ton package. It already has the 4.0L and the AW4 transmission. To my surprise, the rear leafs don't appear to match any of the leaf springs commonly used. They are a 4/1 design -- 4 leafs, 1 overload, and have no numbers or other identifying marks on them.

Do I already have metric-ton level leafs? If these are from some other vehicle/lift kit, anyone able to ID them? Just knowing what I have would be helpful for replacing them in the future if necessary.

Thanks for any help!

Those appear to be standard 4 pack springs with an add a leaf and a longer shackle.

You know, that sounds exactly like what they probably are. I'm pretty good with most things mechanical, but my weak area by far is suspension, and Jeeps have a million different ways there suspensions can be set up and customized.

Thank you so much!
