Seems like something might have fit here at some point...

Recommended Posts

On the B pillar trim above the light and next to that bundle of wire for the cargo light that is sticking out in the picture, there is a hole that has a trim plug.  Underneath the trim plug is either a threaded hole, a speednut or a U nut (sorry I'm not in the vicinity of my truck to double check right now.)

What I am trying to figure out is what might be attached there if the trim plug is not there?  I can't understand why there would be a hole covering up a nut for no good reason.  Was there some optional item that could attach to that point?  Maybe a different trim level item? I really expect that more than one of you long time forum members will know the answer.

Thanks

A screw went there to hold the top of the B-pillar steady. All those plugs are for is to hide the interior screw heads to clean up the look of the interior and not make it look like the screws to hold them in we’re an after thought.
do your A-pillars not have the same covers over the screws?

What EagleScout said.  I have also seen where the plastic in that hole is cracked and broken out, so the screw head has nothing to catch on.  So the screw is left out and just the cap is there.

My b-pillar clip is exactly like this. I'm going to plastic weld + window-screen mesh it next time so there's something to screw to.

My apologies for not responding sooner.  Apparently i forgot to "Follow" my own post.

@eaglescout526 My A pillars have the smaller version of the trim screw covers.  The ones in the B pillar are at least 2-3 times the diameter.

Thanks to everyone for your responses.  For the record, one of the B pillar trims still has the plastic tab that the screw hoods down but the other is gone.

I'm pretty sure all the MJ B pillars use the same trim caps as the XJ/MJ A pillars.  Now the very early XJs (1984), the A pillars didn't use trim caps at all.  The screws weren't covered up.  But MJ A pillars all used trim caps and all the B pillars used the same trim caps.  At least as far as I've seen.

There are similar, larger plugs used for the seatbelt mounting point on the female end seat belts.  And another similar plug used on the mounting point for the swivel of the male end seat belt.  Maybe you are thinking of those plugs?
