Gauge cluster

Recommended Posts

The inner cable that spins is probably to long. This happened on my Eagle after I put in an after market cable. I fixed it by grinding the end of the inner cable down about 1/8 of an inch with a flap disc on an angle grinder.

On which side cluster side or t case?

Both ends of my after market cable were metal so I could trim either end. I trimmed the speedo end. But if yours has a plastic tip on the speedo side like they were from the factory trim the t case side.

Also do you have cruise control? If you do then you should have a 2 speedometer cables a short and a long. If you don't have cruise then you will only have one long one.

Also don't just trim off an 1/8 inch in one go. Just do a little at a time and then test it out. It may take a few tries but it is the safer way to do it.

Ok ill give that a try no cruise its 1 cable

ill try that tomorrow thanks for the help

i was thinking it was the actual speedometer but ill try the cable first

Have a 88 mj speedometer jumps while going 30 jumps from 25-35 thought it was the speedometer cable installed new one and still the same any help

First, remove the new cable and get some lubricant into it. If it's possible to slide the inner cable out of the sheath, wipe it down with a light, non-hardening grease or a quality synthetic oil.

Second, check the routing of the cable. Often, jumping is a result of a tight radius bend somewhere in the routing of the cable beteween the speedo and the transmission or transfer case output.
