89MJ15
Hi all My Comanche 89 4.0 AX15 4wd Was sitting for an extended amount of time, started right up but had no clutch pedal and wasn't able to shift with the engine running. Dropped the transmission replaced the internal slave cylinder, clutch kit, hoses. Proceeded to bleed the heck out of it had a soft pedal and still difficulty shifting. Then decided to to change out the master cylinder. Re bleed the system have found some success able to shift into 1st and reverse with moderate difficulty. Ive read these things are a real bear to get all the air out of. Any ideas what am I overlooking? -no problems shifting while engine is off
cruiser54
Pump the clutch pedal 50 times and walk away for 15 minutes. See if that helps.
Pete M
did you bench bleed the new master?

Pete M
they can be a serious pain to bleed. I wonder if a vacuum bleeder would work better?
89MJ15
So I took my little inspection camera to see what was going on inside the bell housing after trying ever which way bleeding techniques. How's the travel look on the internal slave cylinder? Enough movement to actuate properly? 93F03E75-EE9D-428C-A162-ABC9D93BA0AA.mov
Pete M
'tis a good question. I've never seen one activate before.
pizzaman09
Before I converted to external slave, I was bleeding the internal slave in my AX-15 every few days. The trick I found was to open the bleeder and just let it gravity bleed for a couple of minutes. No pumping. Resulted in a beautifully firm pedal every time. Just make sure the master doesn't run out as you do it.
