These were behind my bumper what are they for? Also there was some weird metal block in front of the steering gear is that supposed to be there ?3e5a43ec241830b85598182e832cd3a3.jpg

Looks like it's just a reinforcement plate for the bumper mount and uses real nuts instead of the stupid metal clip on things.  Do you have a picture of the other block you are talking about?

No I don't. I'll have to take one tommrow when I get back to working on it

The block is supposed to be there, yes.  It's there to deflect the box in case of a front-end collisions so the steering shaft doesn't, like, spear through the driver.They removed it in the HO years.

Ohh ok. I had to remove the cross member so I took it out

Those brackets are useful if you install a larger/heavier front bumper, tow hooks or not.
I have a hidden winch I'm putting in. I'm gonna try to keep them maybe
