Rubikahn
Anyone dealt with trying to remove a bed and the bolts are rusted to hell? If they break coming out is that repairable? I’m assuming the bolts are into welded nuts on the bottom of the bed? Any tricks you guys could share?
Torq_Shep
@Pete Mis the expert on bed removals. I just did mine but it wasn't rusty. With anything rusty, start soaking with penetrating oil like a week before...
The86manche
The hardware for the beds are actually studs with nuts. They are absolutely repairable. However the methods will be a major PITA. Drill out sheared studs or weld a nut and hope they thread out
Pete M
soak them every day for a week. they are decent size bolts, but rust is rust. half are studs, half are nuts. all are on the bed, meaning the frame is just a pass through hole.
Rubikahn
Ok, thanks guys! I’ve been soaking them for a couple days now. Probably gonna wait another week before I attempt anything.
BlackComanche89
Just curious, how many bolts are holding the bed? If nothing is rusty, hos many hours for a removal?
Pete M
8 nuts/bolts. those are easy. it's the other things that take the most time. in a junkyard I can pull a bed in under 20 minutes. but I can cut through anything that doesn't release easy.
