Control Arm Rub

Recommended Posts

Had to swap out my WJ lca's and go to longer units when I went to @3.5" lift, so getting rubbing again particularly when turning sharp left. Best way to eliminate this? I know there is a way to extend the steering stops or add wheel spacers. Looking at 1" and 1.25" spacers, do either of these require cutting down the stock wheel studs because the spacer is that narrow? Definitely don't want to cut the stock studs. Running 31s on Ravines, new wheels with less back spacing not in the budget.

I’d press out the studs and put in shorter ones before cutting them down if that was needed.

I don’t have a good answer about the control arms, though. I think most either go with spacers or wheels with less offset.

did you try moving the factory caster adjusters?  Don was able to get enough to accommodate his 3" lift and retain the WJ arms. :L:

Didn't try that. Are those at the frame side of the mounts? Plus, I have at least 3.5" if not a hair more.

frame side.  visible if you look up from below the arm.  each truck is a bit different and not all have enough room to give.  :(  Don's did though. :D

remember, it doesn't have to be exact.  In fact the shop manual states that pinion angle (driveshaft angle) takes priority over caster angle.  as you lift and change the caster to spec, the pinion gets worse.
