Picked this 2002 grand Cherokee up over a month ago to replace my wife’s totaled Compass. I’m just planing on fixing the little things that are wrong with it and update it with a more modern radio and just enjoy it .

It’s at 166k. It’s a limited with quadradrive 4x4. It has the front and rear limited slips  , skid plates , front and rear tow hooks , and my favorite part is that’s it’s a 4.0 .

I had a 04 and it was a great Jeep. Keep the oil changed and do not over heat it and I'll last a long time. I wanted the color but it wasn't on the lot when I bought it. Beautiful Jeep!

Thanks I appreciate it , I’m actualty having a problem with it right now. It’s only happened twice but the fan won’t kick on and it will cause the temp to creep and once I start moving it cools down. The radiator and fan was replaced by the previous owner. I’m suspect of the fan relay especially since it’s a common issue and or the temp sensor. Despite that this thing runs really good! I just need to fix that intermittent fan problem :holdwrench:

Relay most likely. It is under the passenger side headlight. You can pull the entire front wrap or cut the plastic under the headlight. I suggest cutting the plastic under the headlight. It is a lot easier to do and once the headlight is back in you can't see the cut. This is actually what the dealer would do. You may get lucky and have the hole already cut. It is a common failure.

Blend doors for the dual climate control are another very common failure.

Yup I had a feeling , I’m thinking about adding the mechanical fan from a 4.0 wj with a tow package after I fix the electric fan issue so both fans can work together since we take this off-road quite often and I would like the have the extra cooling. I had done reasearch before buying and already knew what to expect. The passenger side blend door actuator is out too but the whole dash needs to be pulled for it to be replaced , luckily it’s stuck on cold since it gets real hot here in Vegas. Other than that I’m really happy with it. The wife loves the memory seat position.

Since purchasing the Jeep had a few small issues. Both rear window actuators weren’t working and the windows would fall down.

I went and replaced the engine air filter and the engine oil cap since the original was broken. The tires are new on this jeep but I had noticed that one of the tires was loosing air. So I took it too work and found out that one tire had a bad valve stem and the other tire had debris on the wheel so the tire wasnt sealing good so air was leaking between the tire and wheel. I also went ahead and replaced all four valve stems just for good measure.

The plastic slots on the grill were broken and were bugging me so after a trip to the jy I had what I needed. I also took advantage of having the front grill off and tried the rustoleum headlight restoration kit. I’m pretty happy with the results. :L:

The rear hatch struts and rear glass struts were bad so I replaced those also. Forgot to take pics of that.

Before you pull the dash check this out.

https://heatertreater.net/jeep-grand-cherokee-98-04

You don't have to pull it. If you have a V8 putting a mechanical fan on will be tough. The fan is driven with power steering fluid and it is all tied into the same system. It is best to replace the relay. If you are really worried about it failing again, put a toggle switch on it as a fail safe.

The stock fan setup is very good and works great. I wouldn't mess with it.

This was quite a project but I got it done. I converted it to double din and also added a backup camera and I also bought an adapter to retain the factory audio controls on then steering wheel. :scholar:6B73B67A-7A1D-4D6E-9E5F-94E86C0E0160.png.81954e53caa09770d066406d1006aa22.png033B752C-D913-483E-881A-C33797542957.jpeg.61de9f02fb28b4b3579753eaff240859.jpegI also added the wood grain lower dash trim from a earlier grand Cherokee. 04966BD0-67BD-4734-A4DE-4CA88935A422.jpeg.a65d87caf0a534ac9c9837e1948a970d.jpeg0DE045F6-8C71-4A54-A757-7EE6D4C310C2.jpeg.4f9119577a98f46085258232f0181a66.jpeg

Cool thanks for that link I appreciate it :holdwrench:. The problem is that I can actually hear the actuator clicking and i checked the code on the azc  , and Nope it’s the 4.0 that’s the whole reason I jumped on this one. It’s harder finding a limited with the 4.0

Here is a little performance tech for you. Do not waste money buying a aftermarket exhaust. Get a V8 tailpipe and a Flowmaster for a nice upgrade.

Thanks I’ll keep that in mind if I ever plan on upgrading the exhaust :L:

Replaced a few things today. First I replaced the idler pulley , nothing was wrong but decided it was some cheap insurance. I also replaced the drive belt tensioner and the drive belt itself as it had some cracks in it. I was slightly disappointed to find out the old gatorback design that I had ordered has been discontinued so I got a normal looking continental belt from rock auto.  This one doesn’t have the rib design that the gator back belts have which is what I was expecting but didn’t get.

Went the the jy yesterday and finally snagged up the towing package fan. I’m happy With this upgrade , one thing I absolutely love about older jeeps is that you can bolt on parts from better jeeps.

This fan took 20 minutes to Bolt on and now I have more peace in mind and the a/c seems to blow even colder now which is always a plus ! :holdwrench:

I also think it’s funny how Chrysler just used the same gauge cluster from the limited v8 in the limited 4.0. We all know that the red line isn’t that high on the 4.0
