Censorship

Recommended Posts

On topic, I have a lot to say about censorship.  First, may I say --- ------   - ------ - --   when    --- -   -- -  -----  certainly didn't  ---  - - ----    -- - --- .   Beyond that they

must --- -        ------ -  - ---- - -------- before today.   But I digress.

The reality is, we are censored everywhere.  I would agree that there's a lot of self-censoring that goes on here too.  I know I do.   Keeps it civil.

Off topic ...  Pretty easy to vet the guy.  Google "Kyle Stock Bloomberg" and it's all there.  Plenty of writing samples too.    It's his/a job, so don't immediately judge.

He joined Twitter in 2009 and has a ton of automotive content on his feed.   You can also figure out where he is related to "the center".

Woo boy.  Take a day off and come back to this.  I agree with "if you can't say something nice, remain silent".  That is why I didn't respond to the visitor's post.

But, I also believe in sharing knowledge and experience.

When I was younger, I had a personal experience with "reporters".  Sorry to anyone here in that line of work, but I don't trust them, period.  Much later in life, I received professional training on how to deal with them.  That was an eye opener.  Now when watching interviews, it's easy to spot those that have had training.

I enjoy Jeeps, and more often than not, enjoy talking to Jeep owners.  I don't talk to reporters.

I picked a hell of a week to try and quit caffeine.  made it 4 days this time too.  gave up while trying in vain to fix a remote starter for a friend.  just couldn't focus through the headaches.  plus I've overtaxed my brain this past week anyways so there's that dragging me down too.  oh, and the CC headaches are fun on top of it all.  Maybe when I get to GA next week I'll try again.

but anywho, if you gentleman had all said your piece, I'd love to move on and get some sleep without worrying about what I'll find here in the morning.  I've got another half of a tree to cut up and stack for my cousin while she's at work.  oh and that garbage disposal install.  but it's all totally worth it just to get help from the 3 year old.  :D  she likes to walk up and say "you need help!" in the cutest little british accent.  :P  (she's not british, but it sure sounds that way)

What this thread is about is a mod deleting my content which was in and of itself innocuous.

I agree.  In your initial reply, you made what I thought was a very good suggestion.  If members were to post their comments to that thread in response to question posed by the writer, he would have a wealth of information to pull from for his article.  When looking at the history on the thread, I think your post may have been inadvertently removed when a bunch of others (off-topic, questionable content) were removed.  I couldn't say that for sure, but that's what it looks like to me.  And beyond that, my opinion doesn't matter anyway.

Just to be clear... I am an administrator for this site because of my technical skill set.  I assist with technical matters only, and do not moderate these forums.  My opinions are my own, and in no way should be construed to be the opinions of Comanche Club proper and/or Pete.  Pete is the boss, and he makes the decisions and the rules.  It's his forum.  If you've got a technical issue, I'm your guy.  If you've got a problem with something else, see the boss.

Regarding sponsorship, a while back I spoke with Pete and the moderators concerning obtaining sponsorship for the site, and making efforts to drive more traffic to the site.  I was seeing the same opportunities you are.  I learned that's not really the goal/mission here.  The mission is to catalog and share information about the Jeep Comanche freely without relying on corporate sponsorship or advertisements.  This is achieved by keeping operating costs minimal, and relying on member support (via PayPal donations, and donations of time/services).  The community is self-sustaining and growing organically - so it's hard to argue against using this methodology to achieve mission goals.

This place just isn't a business, and never will be.  People like me (and I'm guessing you) have a hard time grasping the non-for-profit concept.  It's a noble one, though.  And in this instance - with Comanche Club - it works.  I believe that's because of the overall positive experience members have here.  So I think we should all keep that in mind.  People come here, and come back, because it's special.  Anyone who has participated on many of the other related forums understands how special this place is.

Well, I'm such a knuckle-dragging Neanderthal that I don't do Twitter, so the fact he has a Twitter feed doesn't impress or inform me.

So much this.

This site, and to an extent the Garage Journal and NAXJA are the ONLY sites I can visit (that I have an interest in) that aren't chock full of advertisements, pop-ups, no page loads, and general pain-in-the-assery things that come with "for profit" websites.  THe best/most extreme example is Pirate 4x4, probably the most infamous board ever created for tech (and other things I won't mention LOL).  The original owner let it grow organically, like we do here, and when he sold it off to Vertical Scope the site turned into straight up junk all in the short span of about 5 years.  All that VS cares about are page hits and ad revenues, and it clearly shows.  I don't want that to happen to CC, ever.

Promotion and partnership has nothing to do with commercialization or "corporate sponsorship". Nowhere did I mention commercialization.

Sponsoring a part on a project of a larger platform and getting a mention of gratitude is done in hopes of reaching a larger audience. And it's good PR.

Just as Pete attempted to get Matt to partner up here, Matt is a BAD fit, BleepnJeep is a BAD fit, Matt is self-absorbed, Matt is all about Matt.

I watch a lot of youtube programming, partnering and promoting within youtube platform is very common and generally profitable to each of the partners.

What I'm curious about is why are you guys so giddy about some a-hole writer from any major publication? what do you think will come of it? and if you don't want publicity then why the push and concern?

I have no idea where either of you got that I was suggesting any kind of commercialization of any sort.

Maybe we speak two different languages? reading comprehension? IDK.................

just a calrification before I head out for my day.  all I wanted from bleepin' Jeep was a build thread.  no different than all the other build threads.  that is not partnership.  it's just another step towards collecting and cataloging all things MJ.  All MJ enthusiasts are welcome. :L:

That makes two of us.  I don't subscribe to twitter and I have an alias for facebook (so I can keep in touch with family and the old friends I choose).

Just pointing out that you can collect information about anyone on the internet. There were questions about his intent, conscience and credibility.  Anyone can check it.

The fact that there isn't any pay-for-play corporate BS here is a big part of why I spend so much time here. I am more than happy to donate whatever it takes to make sure that crap stays far away from CC.

This community has taken interest in this not so much because a writer reached out for our input, but because in return some members decided his request was likely a covert attack on their life, liberty and/or pursuit of happiness, and decided to act like a-holes themselves.  Most of the discussion here has been concerning our collectively poor reaction to what (as far as we know) was a genuine, sincere request.

I think there is a comprehension issue at play here.  We've got some extremely smart people on here, and I don't think anybody is really following your train of thought.  The discussion moved rapidly from censorship to sponsorship to commercialism with virtually no transition, and with no apparent correlation.  We don't follow you.  The jumps you're making during the discussion may seem perfectly logical and related to you, but they just don't make sense to the rest of us.  It's like you know so much more than us, and struggle to bring yourself down to our level to fill us in.  I don't think our understanding of how things work is as complete as your is, and as such, you're talking on a whole different level we can't comprehend.  So please - bear with us, and dumb it down a bit so we can follow you.

Kyle is long gone now.  At least if he's smart he is.  It's too bad!  I read the original, now deleted, posts on his request thread, albeit my memory is not verbatim.  He was met with some screed of immediate suspicion and invective like the tentacled body snatchers that decry the "enemy of the people."  While I don't consider myself the likely candidate for the interview since I'm a relative newby and this is my one and only ever Jeep pickup, or Jeep for that matter.  However, I also don't appreciate someone else's effective usurpation of my choice by disparaging the person asking on the forum if I would like to talk to them.  Apparently a lot of others don't care for it either.  It's also Pete's prerogative to censor what ever in HE/double hockey sticks he feels like.  It's his website.

I highly recommend switching to a fringe browser (I use Pale Moon) and getting Adblock and Noscript (or Ghostery) for it.  I can browse even the most ad infested VerticalScrooge forums without seeing them, while generally having the core content work as needed.  I wouldn't recommend this as a method of browsing the rest of the internet, as the user experience is generally quite impacted (read that as most sites basically don't work, at all).  Forums are mostly text and pictures so you don't need most of the advanced scripting, that's now so common, to actually work.

a thought occurred to me.  might not be an original thought since it's been a long day and my brain is fried so apologies if someone typed it somewhere above already, but the original argument was about what different people thought was best for our site.  I can think of a lot of worse things to argue over on the internet.  :D  and that makes me feel good.  :beerchug:

This struck a harmonious chord for me! Although I’ve been following this forum for ages, I’ve only participated to a small degree since finally managing to become an MJ owner a month ago. At the same time I suddenly felt, and was made to feel at home. And since then this has become my happy cyber-place to visit.

When I first started 4x4’ing a decade ago I joined a local 4x4forum which I thought was awesome until I started coming across the keyboard warriors and (generally uninformed) opinionated idiots who seem to thrive on rubbing people up the wrong way, and decided that I don’t need that in my life.

I’ve not noticed any of that here. My impression has been that the main participants & mods primary goal and interest is to support our common passion, rather than a bunch of other agendas. For that, a heartfelt thank you from my side.

This really is a special place. Of course CC is made up of individuals, all of us having unique personalities and opinions, so I guess like any family we will have to agree to disagree now and then, hopefully that too will make us stronger.

Thanks again to everyone who makes this place possible!
