Happy Independence Day! (yesterday) Got some work done on the Manche. We are doing the load sensing valve delete, disassemble the Ebrakes, remove the drive shaft etc..

We followed Kryptronics write up on the process to change out the proportioning valve from a Jeep YJ, i used a 1994 (i believe). Here's a link to the thread

https://comancheclub.com/topic/54855-load-sensing-valve-delete-yj-prop-valve-recipe/?tab=comments#comment-560990

We got it almost all the way done, fought with disconnecting the lines from the current prop valve, they were all really tough and in a pretty tight spot. We absolutely mangled one of the flare nuts, so that line will have to be replaced along the way to finish it the project. We used a 3/16 adapter to couple the rear lines together once we removed the valve. I'd offer the valve up for someone here but it is minced rust meat.. no good and unfortunately, will be discarded.

We are replacing the rear ebrake cable for new ones the match up to the ford 8.8 so we removed the existing that didnt work anyway.

We will also be doing a slip yoke eliminator and new drive shaft so we went ahead and disconnected the current.

It was a good project day, it was pouring raining so it worked perfect to have some garage time, beers and working with my brother and hanging with our parents.

We found the remaining master cylinder line from a Cherokee and got it installed and that finishes the load sensing valve delete project!

Then we rolled out into the driveway and pressure washed the junk and gunk off the frame so we can get started with rust prevention.

What a weekend working on the Comanche! We did so much prep, had snags and issues along the way with equipment or running out of abrasive media and many other things. However we kicked butt on the moderate rust removal and prevention!

We used a 40lb pressure blaster with 2 compressors T'd together, black diamond coal slag media, Texas July heat, humidity and rain is perfect for long sleeves covered by a dust suit and blasting hood. Nnnnt! The hood was terrible so i upgraded to a carhartt heavy shirt wrapped around my head. My brother and i blasted about 80% off and we ran out of media. Total hack job with newbies running the blaster.. self admitted..lol! It worked pretty good though! We brought it back into the garage and continued with an array of wire wheels.

We prepped for paint and had this weird gunk that rose to the surface of the metal, alcohol in a spray bottle and a rag would kinda get it off, i went to grab another spray bottle and found one that had white vinegar in it, i tried that and that gunk just wiped of smooth.. then we're noticed the frame was turning gold.. it was the weirdest thing. I quickly made a spray bottle of baking soda and water and doused it with that to neutralize. Then we hand washed with soap and water and then pressure washed.. it got some of the gold off but it was on there big time so we alcoholed again and started painting.

We used rustoleum pro rusty metal primer. That stuff is awesome! Check out some of the pics below!06a38319020fe93e918c12444f3d1a7b.jpgd41154f681dc7bebf57d61e540289b2c.jpg2fff94d0d96de5d0be76e4298c564f37.jpg61d05131a5ab082172c6298783eeb7ba.jpg3205fba6d9b50945f631ce4838212f55.jpg6454bbef955f93533998cca8876c0709.jpg7d347c300c8628b83915522ccf7deed8.jpgd3a2429b5ae46b01906cf8919daa29af.jpgd179e3f0a117c8498ae8235b692c8caa.jpg7aa0a7fe03dd77c90c4110bb111bc7fc.jpg889a085c100cd84f5b50ac9e4e8a58d9.jpg667ab59590cda500218eb7c64f954c07.jpgbdf32906b9c8ec60b71bdc1b82eb1475.jpga5cb82fb216f2ed12ef613a209a42752.jpg7f40e9ef43d0639a833d22987e524e8e.jpgbe7455d2a018e67d64dd4936d680f126.jpg0aa52246087d994fb7c531ab621b3b3c.jpg

Hey there, how hard was it to replace the window seal? Mine are shot!
Not too bad at all, just roll the window down, look for the clips inside the window crease and use pliers/flat head screwdriver to grab or pry them up carefully.. and the new just snap back in the same location, i used a poly deadblow hammer to tap them all the way down into place.

TSC sells a hardener for their oil based paints/industrial paints. Added to Rustolium, you'll get three times the longevity.

Just a thought, if you are doing a second coat.

https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/majic-catalyst-hardener-clear-half-1-2-pint

You can find similar products elsewhere, also.
Thanks man.. I'll check it out. I was at TSC yesterday for other stuff.. didnt know they had something like this

Great day working in the Texas heat.. we fought and won against the spring bolts, removed the axle, sand blasted then painted the gas tank straps and emergency brake bracket. Now capping off with a great bourbon!

Ahhh..........a brown water fan I see!! Nice group of bottles. Love the EHT Rye, love ALL of EHT's juice. Is that Willett a rye or a bourbon? I've got one of their 3yr ryes, not my fave.

Big fan.. i really like the willet rye and the EHT.. they are different from each other in flavor for sure. I don't like some of the other ryes but those two are really good.

Thanks for the compliments man! It's taken some hunting to get a few of those and i have a few others in the pantry that are special occasion stuff too!

Yeah, I'm a wheater fan primarily, saw the Weller Antique hiding behind the BT too! I'm in VA and it's a control state but they are actually getting a pretty decent selection of stuff. Unfortunately the super popular and allocated juice you can only get by lottery here. That said, we might be able to help each other out. Let me know something you are looking for and if it's not available in VA I have some connections in other locations. If I am correct you are in TX and I know there are some bottles there that we don't see the light of day on in VA. Feel free to PM me.........

Oh, and the MJ is coming along great too! :beerchug: (bourbon cheers)

Worked on the rear end this weekend and made some good progress. My brother stepped up big, helping me rebuild calipers for the ford 8.8, changed wheel bearings and seals and then... he smoked some amazing pork ribs!

All the while i was a machine.. grinding rust from the spring packs, then clean and then paint.. over and over again. It was brutal hot and humid but we got em all done and painted. here's a few pics from Sat and Sunday..

Next up: need hardware for the spring pack
Gear oil and friction modifier
Mock up the axle and tack on the spring perchese1042e61d67e5f2ce7375bac6a398083.jpg32bb06cc2dffd9d0d50497fd188195c8.jpgeae8c916b75233cd8b30a7eee4c9244a.jpg2d70fe07a4f5c8cda18b64c97de973ff.jpg6b00c87d523f3dfbeaa96934a21ab93e.jpgc57b90f01ca6cabc993178259e231c4f.jpg2dc71ec53b9a44311ef48bee1d427f52.jpg

Got to work on the truck a little yesterday, well until the Texans Preseason game came on!

Passenger rear axle had a bad bearing and marred the surface.. found this shaft at a JY in good shape but with some surface corrosion. Hit it with the wire brush wheel and it cleaned up real nice. Gave it a coat of oil and put it back in. My brother helped me clean up the diff cover bolts, they look brand new! We tried the lubelocker gasket, it's really simple and hopefully worth the extra money. Primed and painted the diff cover.. I'll get another final pic next time i get to work on it. Was supposed to be today but i got sick last night and didnt feel tip top today, so a day in the sun prolly would have been too much!a27bef414ca8d1cd17c299154bea284a.jpgb97f7930327586e9aec5eac50251410b.jpg6b55aba2b2aca033c01fd9b156c4778c.jpgf5e223a98fa6d2f09e183ae4c670037a.jpg738e12854efd564efa6207de3017b3f1.jpgca00afce7939df2e7135b004e3ec36c1.jpg

Good hunting buddy of ours, manages a highway road company. We went into his shop on the weekend and worked on our hunting vehicles. I brought the Comanche's new wheels and tires to get mounted. Purchased these months ago. Went with the Mickey Thompson MTZ 285/75/16 and Pro Comp 16x8s steel.

Finally got back on the H.O. project.. we mocked up the Ford 8.8 axle under the Comanche, snugged down the ubolts and took a few measurements for the new driveshaft.. we also tried on the new tires! Much more to do but really cool to see some progress! love the tires   I was thinking on a baby set for my liberty once I fix the suspension.

I think the inner trim pops out and that exposes the screws.  been a while since I've dealt with one.
Thanks Pete! You're exactly right, we ended up getting it popped out and found the 2nd hidden screw

Earlier we removed the bench seat, took out interior panels, the 4wd shifter bezel and the vinyl mat. We've been dreading that there would be really bad rust underneath. It wasn't as bad as we thought. Just 3 rust holes that will need some attention. Repairing floorpans is a tough job but we'll work on it till its done!18df069cd733ce96f414ccc74dc00377.jpg9774fadb6cf1e595c020d3d12fa3f6eb.jpg7626c5220855bfe395f96767ebebb567.jpgc63cfde9885b341d0cc39432593064fa.jpg31e794d97e50f464f905d2dd87c14d7a.jpg56b7c19aa42ef3f781fa22c916880786.jpg172dd137db75271daeda29739e0a12fa.jpg

We knew getting into the floorboards was gonna stink. Started with a little 101+coke and off we went. Drilling and prying drilling and prying over and over. With rust the spot welds are very sneaky and sometimes hard to find. I had to go inspector holmes on the last one, you can see it hanging on with the blue arrow. I broke out the telescopic dental type mirror so i could see under the lip. For cutting the welds the blair spot weld cutter was so good. I highly recommend! 2bf8eaf5ce32a3e4f0e7947ec821f17f.jpge328c3a1e064305a96ef0c99f2d38ea1.jpg4f8b75421e5a8ea044d5886fe9a6238b.jpg824454b836ece1635699a0f052250a31.jpgdc66d77405da44743497a0aa54426ffd.jpg6af5565a6a72865a58e6aa559484b234.jpgc3fdc9fe1c65f274ebde04f4acbe3f49.jpg
