My 08 Long Bed Mega Cab ate another transmission towing John's MJ to him on Saturday. No big deal, I had it built and it came with a 36 month warranty. Or so I thought. The prick that built closed shop and I was out $5000 for a transmission.

After thinking long and hard about it, I traded it in to the dealer Tuesday night. There was no way any bank would finance a 10 year old truck with 202k on it.

I got $15k for Meg on trade, $6500 in rebates, 1.9% interest, $950 worth of tracking system and lifetime nitrogen fill for free. They also gave me $1500 towards my taxes because they didn't want to drive to the Arizona border to sell it out of state.

I picked up a new 2017 Ram 3500, 6.7, Aisan automatic, 4x4, Crew Cab, air suspension for a great price of $41,434 out the door. I also got them to toss in a extended warranty. 8/125k power train for free.

All and all I'm excited about the the truck. It doesn't have the curb appeal that Meg had but I know I'll be covered for the next 8 years. Please say hello to Grayce.

I'm surprised you got that much with a blown transmission. Was it still driving or dead in the water?

It was still running just wouldn't stay in torque converter lock up past 1/4 throttle. It also went into limp mode twice on Saturday pulling the MJ. That is the same issues it was having before it got rebuilt the last time.

They also just gave me wholesale value for it. All they did is wrote down the VIN and made me the offer. I took everything out of it that I added. Gauges, brake controller, stereo system, and a few other things.

I didn't need those things because the new truck has them all factory. I paid for them and they were mine. The didn't factor them into the price so I kept them.

They'll flog it at auction unless they decide it's worth fixing, dealers never lose.

That's a great looking truck you picked up though.
I hope it lives on and some loves it as much as I did. It was a pretty truck.

Sucks that the transmission shop closed.   Suppose the failed rebuild on your truck tells us why they closed.

That 2017 Ram 3500 looks like a real bargain for $41K.  It is hard to get a half ton truck for less than $40K.

Great looking truck!  Looks like my 1500’s younger but bigger brother.  Never was a Mopar type until I bought mine but don’t think I’ll ever own another brand of truck (except my MJ).   However, if Jeep came out with a new Comanche .........

Nice truck, especially for the price.  I guess I should of looked at new/ year old models on the lot.  Just bought a newer used truck as the new ones were way out of the price range.  Hell the one I bought still is.  My busy has a 2016 non dually and he loves it.

The first order of business was to get on sun protection and privacy.

Much better!

The dealer just tossed their mud flaps on the back and they were crooked as all get out. Not really a mod nut they are even now.

This is my favorite mod so far. I removed the rear seat and cut this little tab off the locking bar. This allows me to keep a stock looking seat.

But gave me room to put a little sub behind the seat.

And then modify the seat back to hold some rods.1b7ed04696ee39a465789afbefeea043.jpg

Lift the seat bottom to a 45* angle and tug the back slightly and you have access to your rods and room for other goodies.

Info on that sub?  And hows it sound?

That tint makes it look even better. :brows:
It is an SSL LoPro10. It has an integrated 1200 watt amp and a remote gain knob. It sounds decent and is getting better as it get broken in. You won't disturb the neighborhood but it fills the void of base in the cab. I am running a Pioneer AVH-2300NEX head unit. My amp leads and RCAs are from KnuKoncepts. I personally think their wiring is some of the best money can buy. For $123 shipped it is worth the money to have a compact amp/sup that can easily be hidden.

I don't know crap about the newer 4-dr trucks Bo. The tires look smallish; is that the norm now? And yeah, that tint really sets it off.

The tires are 235/80r17s, roughly a 32" tall tire. They run skinny to keep the rear tires from rubbing together. I am debating stepping up to a 34" tire to offset the 4:10 gear ratio. I am just not sold on running spacers to keep them separated.

Thanks; threw the LoPro8 in my Amazon cart for later.  I don't need big sound, so I think it might be the ticket.

I don't mess with anything smaller than 10s when it comes to subs. You can get better sound out of a pair of 6x9s than a 8" sub.

Gotcha, swapped 'er out in my cart.  I'm not going to get to it for a bit so I'll see if it goes on sale before I hit buy. :P

I found a dual color white/amber 22" light bar on eBay and it had really good reviews. I shot them a low ball offer of $25 and they came back at $37. I figured what the hell.

It was the simplest install I have ever done. I picked up the mounting brackets on Amazon for $10 shipped.

I had to remove 2 bolts on each tow hook, slide the bracket in, put the LED bar in place and the tighten the tow hook bolts down.

The wiring was stupid simple. I had to crimp three spade terminals on the light and then connect the hot and ground wires to the battery. That's it! The light is remote controlled and came with a little remote.

For less than $50 I'm impressed. I like having the option of a driving/work light and also having the amber for fog and reduced visibility.

Oh, did I mention it also has a strobe function? That will come in handy when I need to back the trailer into my driveway and need to let other drivers know I'm blocking their lane.

love it!  :L:  that's how mine went in, between the tow hook bolts on the KJ.

does it alternate the strobe patterns automatically or can you choose one?

I did a few little mods to give the truck a little more of my style to it. I replaced all the lights with smoked versions. Added matte black overlays to my factory chrome badges and to the hood gills.

Next order of business is the grill overlay and wrapping the bumpers.b943f287c20e13b043eca19633d20d2c.jpgf184e256b94d89008fba5b05c374808a.jpgfec592a1f53ce59e55b631f804036348.jpg
