mattbuch96
Previously I replaced my weather striping and the new weather strip is so tight I have to roll up or down my windows pulling or pushing the glass with one hand and cranking with the other. Any suggestions to make it move freely? I've tried window and track lubricant and it didn't seem to work...
coolwind57
The thought of stripping out (or breaking) that worm gear of the window crank makes me cringe. I replaced both crank assemblies on my truck two weeks ago and it was not a very fun project. Hope you find a solution, bro. I don't wish a window crank replacement on anybody. Thanks, I hope it isn't the crank, it started after I put in those new seals. I think the seals are just to tight.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Minuit
Aftermarket weatherstripping? It's garbage. About the only thing you can do is make sure it's seated completely.

Thanks, the seals I had were completely shot, all dry rotted and cracked. I spent 70 dollars to fix it and now I can barley move them. Thanks for the input though!Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Minuit
Yeah, it's sad. After replacing all of my weatherstripping with aftermarket dreck I have more wind noise than I did originally. Now I'm piecing together a set of NOS parts... not cheap. Long in the future when it's a huge ordeal to keep an MJ on the road, it won't be for a lack of parts. It'll be because the parts we can get are so garbage they're barely useful.

coolwind57
I'll tell you what I did about 3-weeks ago, fellas: Home Depot flat weatherstripping. I'll see if I can get a pic or something as soon as I have time to figure out how to post pics here. This stuff worked WONDERFULLY for me. The size I bought fit perfectly inside the three walls of the channel and made a huge difference in wind noise. I replace only the channel above the window line....that going inside the door cavity was not brittle and held up well. I did this after also pulling the outside glass "sweeps" and replacing from the updated ones of a 98 XJ. That too was a great upgrade from the brittle, crumbling ones put originally on our MJs. The Home Depot stripping was self adhesive and flat with ribbing on the contacting surfaces. I bought the brown because I couldn't find black, but I'm happy because it does kinda go with my camo painted truck. Totally sealed up my window glass and does not restrict. That little line of adhesive has held up well too.
SVPete
To go back to the original question: I assume you removed the vent (or fixed) window when you installed the glass division bar (the item you have circled - I think that's its name). I believe you pretty much have to if you want to get all the pieces out since it is held in by a rivet near the bottom. It would seem extremely difficult to replace with the vent window installed. If you didn't get all of the old one out, perhaps that is causing the binding issue? I would recommend removing the window regulators completely, pulling the worm-screw rod thing the glass actually attaches to, and cleaning both pieces. I'm not sure if they are supposed to be lubricated, but I put a little grease on them and things are very smooth. Removing the window regulator is really not that hard to do. Thank you for your input, this all started when o switched my vent windows to solid windows. I then put new weatherstrip on the piece I circled, after that my windows haven't worked since. To me it looks like the new seals are a lot tighter than the original ones. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Minuit
The triangle windows can be kinda hard to get totally seated. Is there any gap between the "front" edge of the triangle window and the door? That might cause a little bit too much pressure on the windows. The gaskets can also get pinched preventing the window from going in all the way.

MJCARENA
I have the same problem after changing the same seals on my truck. It has been almost a year and they are still tight, was hoping they would shrink some and loosen up. Pretty much I never open my windows, because it feels like the handle is going to break off. One of these days I am going to remove them and shave the ribs off the sides to see if that helps. Hope you find a solution.
SVPete
Another thought. Doesn't the bottom bolt for the triangle window pass through a slotted hole? I seem to remember playing with the positioning of that bolt when putting my windows back in the door. The more I think about it, I'm pretty sure my window was pretty tight when I first put things together.
kansashogan
Minuit is right. I replaced every piece of rubber in and around my doors. You really have to pay attention to the fitment of the triangle window to the front of the door. The thin rubber wants to fold over and catch on everything. I lubricated the rubber and the metal with soapy water and it really helped. I took mine in and out several times till I got it right.
