JE39
Hi! Just the other day I noticed that there is a third plate light behind the rear bumper... Now the bumper is an aftermarket ("Fey" I believe?). Does this mean that my MJ was perhaps delivered without rear bumper from the factory!?!? Everything looks like there's a plate meant to be... :dunno:
HOrnbrod
MJ rear bumpers were optional back in the day........
JE39
Unimaginable nowadays... Thanks for confirming :)
Green Mesa XJ
Hell mirrors and other standard equipment now was considered optional extras. Being a truck there used to be all kinds of loopholes for safety standards trucks didn't have to meet. If that is a factory set up then This maybe be why. Eagle
Of course it was a factory setup. The two bolts for holding the license plate are still there, just below the light.
jeeppapa
Bought an S-10 in 86 off the lot no bumper or radio. Payment was 169 a month. Wish they still had deals like that available for the younger guys these days. It was a great truck. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Dzimm
Trucks have now replaced the family sedan...........it's a different world from 1986. A different world it is. I don't trust any other drivers enough to drive without a rear bumper nowadays.
ParadiseMJ
Trucks have now replaced the family sedan...........it's a different world from 1986. Yes it is...people born in 1986 are 31 now. I'd say SUV's are the sedans, trucks are the "sports cars". Jeeps are still Jeeps.

Unless they're Patriots, or Compasses, or Grand Cherokees, or Fiats. It's even difficult to think of the current Wrangler as a Jeep, when the front axle needs hundreds of dollars worth of reinforcing just to be able to mount bigger tires and go off-road. dasbulliwagen
That's the same light and plate setup that was on my rear bumper delete when I bought it from the original owner. I have an XJ rear bumper there now with a custom plate mount and LED lighted bolts.

Rolled off the assembly line as a SporTruck, so makes sense it would be optional for a base model. As for the Prius; I'm doing the best I can to rid the planet of fossile fuels; one of the reasons I'm driving a Jeep. The Prius just helps to prolong the era of fossile fuels, by not burning them... :D

I just recently picked up my 89 mj... Does that statement mean I don't need to reinforce anything to mount bigger tires? Honestly curious.
