Angry_bucktooth
Okay so I'm almost done with my motor swap. I went from a 1988 mj 2.5 5spd 4x4 to a 4.0 aw4 4x4 from a 91 mj. I have swapped the whole driveline all of the engine bay electrics and the behind the dash electronics. I'm curious about the rear cab harness do I need to swap that one also since it's fuel pump rear lights and b pillar lights or can I change the connector and leave the wires
AMC86Kid
The lights should work the same but the fuel pump might be different not sure what fuel pumps each model had
HOrnbrod
Yes, you will be fine on the rear lights, but the output from the 88 fuel sender will be of opposite polarity for the 91 fuel gauge, so the gauge will indicate backwards. Do you have the 91 sender you can swap in?
Angry_bucktooth
Yea I have a 1991 sender So I need to swap the whole sender assembly or just the pumps. Also how do I modify the connectors like what wires splice to what
AMC86Kid
can you post pics of both ?
HOrnbrod
You need to swap in the 91 sender for the 91 gauge. There are only three wires on the 91 sender connector; 12V (Grn wire), GND (Blk wire), and the gauge output wire (Blue wire). Would be difficult to get them wrong. The pumps are the same so use either.

Angry_bucktooth
These (above) are the connectors in my 88 And These (below) is the connector from the 91. Both are 16 wires total. Can I splice the new style connector to the old wires if so what colors to what
HOrnbrod
Yes. Below is the 91 rear body connector w. pin functions. You will have to identify the Renix connector wires by function, not just color.

HOrnbrod
Which 16-pin connector are you looking at? The one near the cab or at the rear? The other end of the harness

The other end of the harness It's the black 16 pin connector behind the driver side kick panel below the parking brake assembly that connects the rear part of the harness to the dash section
