Anybody know what this might be?

Found this loose wire/tube. Found it just in front of the gas tank. Does anybody know what it is for, and why or if its been cut, and if I need to fix it,lol

what is it  ? a  hose ?  if  so follow  the other  end  see if  that may give clue to what its  purpose   was  or  is  for  if it is  a  hose my guesse  would be  a past  second fuel tank reserve? in which  case   cut it out !  other than that  there is no telling !!   maybe  this  could make  headlines  lmalol

I suspect that it is the vapor return line back to the fuel tank. It is...well...er...optional.

Vapor return is my first guess too. On the xj there are two plastic inlets with a rubber grommet sealing them at the top of the tank, those can break or have the like pop lose easy enough.

 

On a 91 XJ there like a y splitting line before the tank , the main rubber line goes back to the frame to a metal line that looks like a brake line and that goes to the front of the jeep then back to a rubber line and to the fuel system to recycle the vapors in some models .

You need to find where the other end is connected to be sure what it is. More than likely it is just a vent/return hose but you still want to be sure before leaving it hang.
