AX15 break in oil

Recommended Posts

This is what my break in oil looked like. Was supposed to only be 500 miles, ended up closer to 3000. Whoops.

Wal-Mart 85w-140 I think is what I used. Junkyard tranny that got new synchros and seals, oil had all kinds of metal (ferrous) in it and the pan looked like a glitter bomb had hit it (brass).

I think I'll stick to the proper weight from now on. dbbdffd0bda9d9629b90493a3c2c08b1.jpg7f483a8d11674e0c8b0ecea4dcba4cea.jpg90e7e578af7d0c354783e5b854c8b0f4.jpgb093008de5777587b570366b10b022d2.jpg

I used to run 85-140 in the tranny of my racing Javelin. Back then I couldn't find it in auto parts stores, I had to buy it from the local White truck dealer. They used it in the big trucks. That wasn't caused by the weight of the gear oil.

You don't happen to still have said javelin do ya? I've got a particular soft spot for those....
