Anyone ever seen this before?

Unhooked the ballast resistor today because I noticed my fuel pump sounding weak and really loud. There was no sign of any ceramics! Ever seen anything like this? Long story short I deleted it. And bought a Bosch 69302 to go in soon since I'm sure the pumps getting old. These Bosch pumps are getting hard to find... I think the resistor being like this might be a cause of a slightly rough idle? That little wire couldn't of been enough to run the pump full power, could it?

I don't think the ballast resistor is the rough idle cause. It looks like the brittle coil wire insulator just cracked over time due to heat and vibration, but the conductive wire itself is intact. That's pretty common with power resistors in vehicles. I'd just replace it with a new one.

I'm going to eventually throw one with ring connectors on like you did. This was just a real quick decision since the spade terminals were bent up as well. Chances are the rough idle is mostly my vacuum leaks. I'm getting those fixed and going down the line of sensors and ect. Got my 97+ valve cover installed though! Looks all pretty painted up and I'm excited to see how the blowby reduces :D
