Help me with some questions

Recommended Posts

Hello! I'm new to this but I'm going to look at a 86 mj this Monday and had some questions for y'all. I'm a die hard wrangler fan I have 2 and one build going but I wanted to look into a mj to haul my four-wheeler and stuff for my builds and to take camping fishing hunting. I was just wondering if anyone has ever hauled there quad on the back of there mj with a 2.5 auto if so I would love to see pictures!! Was also wondering about the 2.5 and power issues? Anyone have a lift with a 2.5 and if so what size tires and does it go highway speeds alright??

Thanks everyone!!! Hope to hear for y'all soon!!!!

the 2.5 is no speed demon. It will do the job, but don't expect to get there in a hurry. couple with an auto, it won't be any better. on the plus side, with the auto it should have 4.56 gears. on my 2.5 with the ax-5, i ran 225/75/15's and it did pretty good on the highway.

Never had a 2.5 but I regularly hauled 2 dirt bikes , gear , fuel etc.. with my 86 5 speed 2.8l on 31s with 3.55 gears and it did it fine ! It was no speed demon but it did it ! And everyone says that the 2.5 is more powerful than the 2.8 so.... ya . I did get a chance to drive a 84 cheroke 2.8 auto and it seemed a lot worse than my truck ever was with the stick , not sure what the gearing was but the stick would be the way to go as the auto really seemed to sap a lot of power .
