Renix aftermarket header

So I've got an intake/exhaust leak somewhere up under the hood. All of my manifold bolts were really loose so I think the seal burnt up some while it was loose because it's still got a leak somewhere after I tightened them. Soon enough I will be changing the gaskets. Whats the verdict on a good aftermarket header for the Renix? Is the only way to use an HO header and either add an 02 bung or extend the lines down to the further down one on the header? I'm going to delete the EGR so that tube won't be a problem.

Most likely the manifold is cracked very common. I know at one time Thorley header did make header for the Renix era but it was short lived.

 

To continue the ho head ports are different so I'm not sure if that will work. Us Renix era have little support

One other thing to do when you replace the cracked manifold - put a flex pipe between the header and the exhaust pipe.   Don has a picture of this posted somewhere.  It will help.  For a new exhaust manifold, just buy one from Ebay and plan on replacing it again in a few years.

I'm not sure the ports are different between Renix and HO on the 2.5. They sell an aftermarket replacement exhaust manifold that works with or without EGR. It comes with a block off for the egr tube if being used with HO. I don't think the 2.5 got the full re do that the 4.0 did when they switched over the injection system. I purchased an aFe header for my 2.5. It is not offered with the EGR port which is fine because I too am doing away with it. Ive yet to install the header but it is nice quality. Let us know what you end up doing.

Exhaust ports are identical. 

 

HO exhaust manifold on Renix
 
As far as exhaust, you can use the Renix exhaust manifold and be fine.
If you want to use the HO exhaust manifold, you must go with an HO headpipe and screw your O2 sensor into that headpipe. Standard Renix harness is plenty long to do so.
A bung can be welded into the HO manifold to accept the EGR tube also.

Even more if you have a custom built downpipe without the factory crush in it.

I tried to get a photo with no success. Do you have a lift on your Jeep?

It's an availability thing.

 

Not all HO headers will clear the Renix intake manifold. I found that out the hard way.

I just used a grinder to grind down the intake manifold enough to fit.

 

And as I said before, that won't fix an issue with the tubes fouling on the intake runners.  The Renix intake has the runners much lower on it than either of the HO style intakes.  If the header tubes have too gentle of a radius out of the exhaust ports they will hit the intake runners, and a grinder isn't going to fix that (not in a way that works).

 

A stock HO header, no big deal, do a little clearance work on the flanges if need be.  But why run a stock header?

I built my own downpipe.  2.5" cheap 409 stainless.

I never took a picture of it installed for whatever reason, but it's very tight, and that's with running an axle that offsets the pinion about 2" farther left than stock...

Anyone ever try a 99+ intake manifold on a Renix?

 

I haven't, but it's been done.  Same problems apply as with the earlier HO intake, plus the usual problems for going to that intake.  I don't know if it's a terribly worthwhile mod without reworking the intake ports on the head or going to a HO head (would be the route I would go if it came up).

You're referring to the late late models with the swooped up intake manifolds that take that header. Correct. That won't work.

 

But. get one for a 91 to 96 and you're fine.
