Big Dan
I couldn't find a definitive answer through a search. With my swap underway, I've noticed that there is plenty of room to elongate the holes on the shock mount/spring plate to make it fit the bigger axle tube. However, the u bolt plate (that goes under the shock mount plate) is not big enough for wider holes. With that said, is it safe to run things without that ubolt plate and just bolt everything up to the shock plate? If I'm not explaining things well, I apologize, I'll post pictures. Jeep Driver
Yeah, chuck the plate. I went aftermarket......but that's another matter.
Strokermjcomanche
Are you going SUA or SOA ? I used XJ plates and welded a shock mount to it , I'll see if I can find a picture of it ...
Big Dan
Staying SUA. I bought a new plate from ruff stuff but it was WAY to large to fit under the shock plate. Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
Jeep Driver
IRRC, the older models had a reinforcement plate and the newer models did not, they did away with it. You should be fine.
desbennett004
I just used the Shock plate. Didn't have to modify it at all. I will probably be cutting the shock mounts off, as I welded mounts right on the back of the axle tubes. I was thinking of using them in some kind of limiting strap assembly, but haven't thought it through yet. Jeep Driver
Yeah, chuck the plate. I went aftermarket......but that's another matter. What did you end up doing? I made my own shock mounts and went with a traditional 3/8 spring plate. I'm now ordering a 'cradle', see other thread regarding spring plates. Cradle is here- http://www.ruffstuffspecialties.com/catalog/merchant.mvc? http://comancheclub.com/topic/52694-sua-recessed-u-bolt-plate/
Big Dan
I guess I used the wrong terminology. The cradle from ruffstuff is what I had ordered and referred to as my new ubolt plate.

Did you weld a shock mount on there? Yes , actually it's a 5/8 bolt with washers on each side of the shock ( with one washer welded to the bolt . I completely misunderstood your original question, sorry.
