prcov
I'm wondering if someone can tell me if these 2 holes connect to each other or if I'm missing 2 hoses that need to go someplace else? My 1986 Comanche was a my Grandfather's since 1993 and my Grandmother just gave it to me last year after his passing. I bought a Chilton's book that covers 1986-1992 but the diagram is missing when it comes to this. I do know that I filled it up with Automatic Transmission fluid after the truck wouldn't move anymore and henceforth it's been raining the fluid out of that hole any time I try to move the truck now. Any help would be appreciated either directly or pointing me to a good online resource! I want to get this truck moving again! - Tobias
ParadiseMJ
That is your A/C condenser. It doesn't take tranny fluid. You're missing the A/C lines. The tranny fill pipe has a dipstick. You might want to find the tranny dipstick and check the fluid level. Don't know if you can save the condenser...or if it just cleaned it out real good. If it's a 4x4 rig, make sure the transfer case isn't in Neutral.
DirtyComanche
What hole rains tranny fluid when you try to move it? Where you filled it from? There should be a tube and a dipstick in it. There should also be a tranny cooler somewhere, that A/C condenser is not it though, trace the lines off the tranny to see where they go. Disclaimer, I am not any sort of an expert on the 86 and earlier XJ/MJs.
prcov
I circled the pipe in white that a red fluid has been spitting out of since I loaded the Auto Trans Fluid down the pipe with the dipstick. I put in the recommended amount as per Chilton's and drove it about 5 miles since it would then engage. But it was dripping a reddish fluid when I returned to the driveway. When I opened up the hood, that hole had some squirt out when I had a friend put it into "D" with the brake on. I'm baffled.
64 Cheyenne
Disconnect the power wire at the AC compressor and try again. This eliminates the compressor/AC system from the equation.
