Got in to the door, removed the locks, went about replacing them until I noticed they were not anything like the one's I had removed. Returned them. Went to NAPA, they brought out the same locks. Both sets looked like they had a Chrysler key included. Double sided. I told them my old key looked like a GM key so we went about looking for a AMC compatible set. Hmmm, then I looked online and found the right ones (or at least the picture looked right). Only after I looked at "Jeep door lock set", instead of "Jeep Comanche", and it was specified for a "Wrangler" So my actual non-tech question, does the CC or even NAXJA vendors list have a code for $$ off at, say 4x4 parts.com,RockAuto, or any other vendor, the set for the newer set was $18, the set for "Wrangler" is $38 Thanks Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

ParadiseMJ Posted February 19, 2017 Author Share Posted February 19, 2017 I thought of that but the lock cylinder on the passenger side is broken...due to some dip stick trying to pry it, like with a screwdriver, it's not just un-key'd, it's wallowed out due to the screwdriver action, Even the original key won't go in. Also, the driver's side just spins and spins and I figured buying new locks (even at $35 a pair) would be cheaper than going to a locksmith...around here anyway. schardein Posted February 19, 2017 Share Posted February 19, 2017 Locksmiths are hit and miss. I've had some quote outrageous prices, and others do fantastic work very inexpensively. Maybe if you take the locks to them (so they aren't making a house call) it would be cheaper. I had a locksmith make a key for the missing one on my Chevy fiberglass hinged bed cover. Took him about 30 minutes including removing the lock, determining the proper key (which he said was a cheap import but had in stock), cut two keys, installed and tested for $15. Dzimm Posted February 19, 2017 Share Posted February 19, 2017 Another option is go to the jy and find an XJ that has keys. Test the locks and if they work, take them and the keys. I had all mismatched locks so I took the ignition, glove box, and door locks from one so they all match. Yes they are used but they match and are cheap. Rockfrog Posted March 7, 2017 Share Posted March 7, 2017 When I still used my stock doors I had to replace the door set. Searched ebay. Any set from an 84-90 XJ/MJ will work. Set I bought swapped in fine and worked great until I tossed the doors a few weeks ago. Can't verify whether a YJ set will work but they used the same or similar GM lock sets until 1990 as well.
